Great climb for all ages

Great adventure where we didn't climb all the way to the top, but went as far as the 5 year old's legs took us. The path is clear and well marked and it was great to see the old... read more

Great adventure where we didn't climb all the way to the top, but went as far as the 5 year old's legs took us. The path is clear and well marked and it was great to see the old mining equipment and the old railway tracks and house ruins near the mineshafts. We had a toddler on a hiking backpack... More

We are not particularly fit but we managed to climb the Old Man and complete the circular walk in 4 hours. Part of it is kind of steep and covered with pebbles/slates, and some part can be very boggy/wet. You just need to make sure to wear proper walking boots. We had to keep our dog on the lead as... We were able to set off and do the walk from our b&b in little arrow. We were very luck with the weather. The views from the top were outstanding. We met and talked to lots of friendly people on the way up and back down again . Thoroughly enjoyed our day.

A long and steep climb to to the top, but fantastic views on a clear day. We walked up with two children who are very fit but was their first proper mountain walk. Took around 6 hours for a round trip, with stops for lunch and photos.

Certainly worth the climb for amazing views despite being very busy. Not a secluded place so be prepared. Take a less popular route to avoid the crowds.

We had a great day for the walk but still took extra kit with us - just in case. We'd vaguely planned a circular walk but missed a turn and ended up being up on the tops much later than we'd planned. Don't underestimate the hills - you don't want to get stuck up there in the dark ! Awesome... More

Amazing walk - tough climb towards the end bt worth the effort. We parked at the car park down in Coniston, at the base of the steep hill up to the car park further up. It wasn't obvious where to head until you park and look at the map in the car park or ask someone! If you find the... More

Did the full walk. We did the walk around the back of the old man of coniston, over the summit and the down the front of the old man. The front is very steep and craggy with loose slate and rocks but the dogs managed. We even saw dogs walking up the front. It is doable but hard work.

This is a lovely walk with some amazing views over Coniston Water and beyond. The weather conditions were less than optimal but thanks to some well maintained paths, it was not too arduous apart from a bit of a scramble at the top. We ascended via the old mining path which was scattered with some interesting relics from the mines... More
