Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Charging for the Walna Scar park is pure greed. The access road is steep and very narrow, requiring a lengthy reverse if a car comes in the opposite direction. It has some pretty major pot holes that will swallow wheels, which I find is unacceptable considering the prices being charged.
The car park itself has barely changed since it was free to park at. However, the signs and posts to prevent access being blocked for the emergency services is very welcome.
I have very little issue with paid parking if it goes to the area and maintenance of the car parks and roads. Yes, it's nice if there are a few free places, but there are so many visitors that the roads and paths need the funding for maintenance. Just make sure it's going to that if you're going to charge a fortune for it.

Great car park! Recommend downloading the Parkonomy app in advance as took a while to do so up there. Super easy to pay on the app for parking though! There’s actually two car parks, we parked in the first and then realised there was one further up but they’re still pretty close to the start of the walk.
Best part was the ice cream van in the car park to greet us at the end of our hike - however disaster struck and I dropped my ice cream but the lovely lady gave me another one for free. It’s true what they say - Northerners are friendlier!! 😊

How these people can charge for this disgraceful car park is beyond me. It’s the most messed up road I’ve ever driven on and charging for it is ridiculous. I’d advise parking down the hill and waking an extra 200m or so. Appalling!

Fortunately very quiet traffic wise as, despite many passing places, you wouldn't want to have to reverse because of the numerous and often deep &/ wide potholes.
Only wanted to stop for (flask) cuppa but the £6 minimum fee was ludicrous. That gets you 4 hours or £8.50 for 24.
Would have happily paid 50p per 15mins to enjoy the views after struggling to get up.
Seasonal ice-cream van apparently according to a sign.

Headed up there with the camper van. It was so congested that the only place we could wait was in front of the gate marked “do not block. Mountain rescue access required”. We had to sit and wait until enough cars moved away to be able to manoeuvre the van. Total
Chaos. It was never like that until a company started to “manage the car park” and stuck a pay machine on it. Do not risk going there on bank holidays or warm days is my suggestion. And definitely don’t pay until you can park safely. Before this car park was “managed” I would have given it a 5 star. The ice cream can still gets a 5 star. 😃

Arrived before 8am, and it was over half full then.
Shame it’s no longer free, but that’s life, where is these days in the lakes.
At least you can pay by card without going through your phone.
When we got back at 12, people were fighting for the spaces about to be vacated

A drive to the car park will substantially reduce the climb to the top of Old Man. There are a few different routes to the top. Car park was £5. Ice cream van was parked there during our visit and also offered hot drinks.

The car park was rammed. It is a single track road. It was horrendous. Go early in the morning but otherwise avoid this car park.

If you want an example of pure greed in action ...this is it. Rydal Estates should be ashamed of such exploitation.

The drive up to the car park is ok, if not extremely steep! Icy roads will be a challenge. There is another car park at the bottom of the hill. It’s not actually a bad walk up but just steep. The car park itself is extremely rough with deep ruts rocks and failed road surface. Low cars will struggle. Kiss goodbye to your sump or exhaust!
