About
Graythwaite Adventure provides a range of outdoor adventure experiences on the private Graythwaite Estate; 5,000 acres of stunning woodland, parkland and lake frontage. With careful planning and consideration for the natural landscape, we’ve designed the Lake District’s only off-road course with BORDA (British Off Road Driving Association) accreditation and BORDA qualified instructors providing expert tuition to guests joining us for 4x4 off-road driving experiences. Clay pigeon shooting, archery and axe throwing take place at our shooting site nestled in the heart of the estate with bushcraft in a beautiful hidden away woodland setting. The secluded bay comes to life April to October when we run watersports; paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, RIB tours and wakesurfing. We're perfect for couples, families, groups and corporate events. Cumbria Tourism Awards 'Experience of the Year' winner in 2019 and finalist in 2022.

surprise clay pigeon shooting with family and friends for my 50th Birthday
what an amazing experience , plenty of variety on where the clays were launched , highly recommend
and Simon the instructor - superb chap , extremely helpful - i shall certainly comeback here again

Great experience lots of laughs and learnt some new driving skills. The location is amazing a bit of a unknown treasure definitely will be going back to try another activity

Lachlan was a fantastic host, helping us build our confidence with the various style of axe that we were able to use, then brining in a healthy element of competition.
The 4x4 experience was also fantastic, with Lachlan encouraging us to try alternative lines, even though he knew we would get stuck. This gave us the opportunity to explore and understand the limitations of the vehicle. My 15-year-old especially loved the opportunity to drive.
Sara was also very helpful, during the booking process. A proper 5-star experience.
The 4x4 experience was also fantastic, with Lachlan encouraging us to try alternative lines, even though he knew we would get stuck. This gave us the opportunity to explore and understand the limitations of the vehicle. My 15-year-old especially loved the opportunity to drive.

Brilliant hour driving the 4x4. Lachlan was first class in explaining everything and we felt safe all the way through. The course was suitably challenging for a novice but those more experienced drivers can do a longer course with more technical difficultly. We even took our little Frenchie along for the ride!

I don’t normally take the time to write reviews but I did feel compelled to on this occasion. My family and I (wife and kids of 10 & 13) had a fantastic time clay pigeon shooting and 4x4 driving. Simon was our instructor for both and was brilliant with the kids and had us all blasting clays out of the sky in no time. Equally great with us on the 4x4 course even though I didn’t manage ‘the struggle’. I’ll be back to try that next year! Thanks for a great day.

We had such a fun time at Graythwaite Adventure! Lachlan looked after us during our visit and was very friendly/helpful.
For each event there are different games to play which made it competitive and fun.
All very safe and Lachlan explained how to use the equipment before we used it. If you have any queries, Sara was really quick to answer on emails & very helpful :)
Well priced too.
10/10, would highly recommend.

I went to Graythwaites with a group of friends to take part in a clay pigeon shoot, as part of my birthday celebrations. The group was mixed ability’s, I had never shot before, and most of the group were total novices like myself so we were a bit nervous.
We had a great time, the instructors were so friendly and knowledgeable and most of all made it fun and were so helpful . We all had a great time, lots of laughs, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely be returning to Graythwaites when next in the Lakes.

We had organised two half days with multiple team events. Day one 4x4 driving followed by archery/axe throwing/clay pigeon shooting. The two lead instructors, Tim and Simon did an amazing job in giving us the best possible experience. Day two was on lake Windermere where we carried out a treasure hunt in Kayaks, followed by a SUP paddle boarding race. Again, thanks to Tim and Sara, we had a great time.
I found team experience very good but, I could have enjoyed the experience equally as much if I just went along with a friend.
The reception from all of the staff was welcoming and I felt in safe hands all of the time. BRILLIANT EXPERIENCE

Enjoyed a fantastic weekend as part of a leadership team building experiential adventure. The team at Graythwaite provided first class communication prior to the event, and provided a relaxed and fun atmosphere throughout.
Tim & Simon on Day 1 were excellent instructors particularly for the 4x4 off roading adventure, followed by archery, axe throwing and clay pigeon shooting (although it wasn't clear if Tim had thrown an axe before based on the fear in the eyes of the local wildlife !:))
Day 2 was great fun and Tim & Sara provided a great morning of water based activities, which whilst tiring, was immensely enjoyable and great for team building. That was then followed by some fire building and cookery activities which were a great way to finish the weekend off.
Many thanks to the Graythwaite team and look forward to seeing them again soon and organising further activities with them.

Earlier this week Pro-Stretch enjoyed a fantastic team building experience with Graythwaite Adventure, to celebrate 20 years in business!
We were met with a delicious picnic lunch, we then took to the rocky hills for some hair-raising 4x4 off-roading fun!
Our brilliant coaches, Tim & Simon helped us to take on individual and team challenges behind the wheel!
Following this, we then tried our hand at axe-throwing, with a team tally to decide on the overall winners.
Well done to Team 1 for winning the Pro-Stretch Challenge Cup!!

Hi, I was just wondering, would we have to book in advance to do something like canoeing, or do we just show up on the day? If we do need to book in advance, how would I do this? Thanks.

Hi I am interested in the clay pigeon shooting. I was wondering if I brought my wife who is a bilateral amputee in a wheelchair would she still be able to shoot . It is something she had wanted to do forever.
