Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a wonderful nature reserve to visit, it is viewed from a boardwalk trail and hides. The volunteers are so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. A lot of wildlife to see and look for, including osprey (nesting spring to autumn), lizards, dragon/damsel flies and many more. Free parking and no entrance fee (though donations are always welcome) and easy access. Definitely worth a visit, such a peaceful place.

Fascinating nature reserve to visit notwithstanding the draw of having ospreys on site.
I really enjoyed the discussion around re-wilding the bog; blocking the drains etc to encourage the generation of mosses and marsh plants with all the attendant flora and fauna that draws in. I was previously oblivious that cranberries grow in the UK, but there they were at Foulshaw. And longhorn beetles too.
The volunteer wardens there were superbly accommodating and hugely knowlegable. Try timing your visit for a Tuesday when a bloke named Matthew volunteers there; what a bloke! Same age as Methuselah and more knowledgeable than the Oracle of Delphi. His delivery of facts and stats. will slay you.
Can't remember the last time I had such a pleasant afternoon not involving girls and/or alcohol. Thoroughly recommend a visit that can cost you nothing unless you want to make a donation.

We visited as we were staying in nearby Grange, the nature reserve was recommended ahead of our trip and we are glad we visited.
There was a small free car park at the entrance and then a boardwalk which took you in a circular of Foulshaw Moss, the highlight was certainly the pair of nesting Ospreys which you can easily see with a scope or binoculars. Several other hides to sit off in, we watched a variety of birds visiting the feeders.
A great place to visit, if we were local I would be here several times a week.

I had a lovely relaxing few hours here today, after passing it countless times.
I came here mainly to try out my new camera lens, and soon saw how popular it is with serious photographers.
It’s a great place, lots of opportunities to see wildlife , as in all these things there’s a good degree of luck and timing.
Helpful volunteers, good Covid one way system.
Great views
By the time I left at lunchtime, the car park was almost full midweek.
All the visitors were nice and respectful and quiet to each other.

A really lovely place. Lots of bird life, and the Ospreys in season.
Visit in Summer to see the many lizards that warm themselves on the boardwalk.
If lucky, you may also see one of the resident Adders.
Several varieties of beautiful dragonflies. Wonderful.

Loved this site, both for the Ospreys and the garden bird feeding stations with a good variety of birds to see. Very accessable

We were made very welcome by a member of staff at the car park and then by another who was manning the cameras allowing us to see the young ospreys on the nest through their telephoto lens. The boardwalk was easy for people of all abilities and the moss itself was very interesting with loads of insect and bird life as well as unusual plants.

Wonderful few hours spent here walking the boardwalks and watching from the viewing points.Saw Falcons, deers, lizards, dragon flies .Lots of ponds and was formerly used for peat digging for many years.
Also one of only a few places which rely on donations rather than entrance fee.
Just off the A590 westbound road so very close but still undisturbed by a y road noise.
Will be going again next month when we are up here again.

We visited Foulshaw Moss today for the first time. It has been a beautiful day not too hot, not too cold and with a gentle breeze. The reserve is easy to find just off the main road, but the traffic is fast so be careful when turning into the entrance. There is a reception hut at the end of the car park where a very friendly lady greeted us and gave us lots of information about what we were likely to see. We are interested in all wildlife but particularly birds, butterflies and dragonflies. At this time of year the nesting Ospreys are probably the main attraction but there are lots of other birds as well. The boardwalks are excellent and make it easy for anyone including those with mobility problems to enjoy the reserve without missing out on anything. We spent the first hour mainly watching the Ospreys which although distant were visible using a telescope provided by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust. Another friendly volunteer was there to provide any information we needed.
Lunch was taken at a nearby farm shop cafe and we returned to the reserve to further explore. There were good numbers of the quite rare Large Heath butterfly along with several other butterfly species and one sighting of a White-faced Darter dragonfly amongst a host of more common damselfly and dragonfly species.
The highlight of the day was a superb sighting of an Adder slowly swimming in one of the pools really close to the boardwalk it very slowly slid out of the water into the vegetation where it appeared to be focused on a prey item.
The Cumbria Wildlife Trust deserve enormous credit for the obvious hard work that has gone into the restoration of Foulshaw Moss and although entry is free, we would suggest that everyone does make a donation towards the management of this wonderful place
