As small museum go this one packs a lot in. The Victorians were always stuffing animals and this museum shows in 'tableau' form and these are quite amazing. Look at some of these tableau’s and you quickly get lost in spotting all of the exhibits. The Polar Bear has to be seen to be believed. There are exhibits from the... More

We dived in here to escape torrential rain and were really glad we did. The museum has four distinct areas...a local history museum with a large collection of Wainwright memorablia, an eclectic and extensive range of taxidermy quite unlike many you would find in a small museum like this. Upstairs houses many geological finds of the region and in the... More

Quite a modest collection, but well presented and well worth a visit. Our main aim in which we were not disappointed was to view items connected with Alfred Wainwright. We were quite thrilled at these and most especially his boots which almost reduced us to tears as were gazed on them with fond memories of many excellent walks in his... More

Really interesting little museum, full of local memorabilia. It is well set out and informative. Great section on local photographer who recorded Lakeland history in the early part of 20th century. Enough to keep children occupied and adults interested.

Exhibits were dark and dingy, cluttered and no flow at all to the museum. It is in a time warp where museums were 30 plus years ago. I have scored it poor and not terrible because of the friendly member of staff who greeted us. The museum is dire over-stuffed with a range of disjointed artefacts of not much rarity... More

Popped in on a rainy day, great value for £2 per person. Spent about 1 hour in the museum, some interesting natural history exhibits.

We visit here on our second last day of our holiday. Was fantastic and wish we could have stayed longer. Great collection got q fairly small museum and my three children appeared to really enjoy the torch light tour. Well with the visit.

The museum, although small is excellent value for money. Myself and my partner visited in July, and completely loved it. The taxidermy collection is fantastic, showcasing animals from all over the world. The Beatrix Potter exhibition that was on when we visited was not quite up to what we expected, but the stuffed animals made up for it 100%.

It is worth £2 to call in at the museum and have a browse around. There are different sections to the museum with a taxidermy section, a large collection of minerals, information about Wainwright, and also a lot of information about Kendal and the Lakeland area including a Viking boat. Also, lots of items to view as well.
