At first thought it a little expensive, but once inside and food such interesting information, it was well worth the entrance fee. It was laid out in such a way, everything was clearly marked with information leaflets

It was a bit of a drizzly day, so we decided to visit this museum. Our expectations weren’t very high, but we were pleasantly surprised at the range of objects on display, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It seemed that we were the only visitors at the time, so perhaps more could be done to advertise this interesting perspective... More

Visited in order to drop off my sheep for the auction. I received a lovely welcome and thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits. The shop was relevant and excellent too. I am going to make the Tatie Pie from your recipe. Well done to all involved.

Been there with my family. It was an interesting hour for all of us. There was even an ongoing arts activity and my daughters were invited to join. Would recommend if you are in the area

By moving through a series of "rooms" from various time periods, we got an interesting insight into the history of the Lake District. Much better than the Abbott Hall next door.

Our walking holiday in the Lakes was rained out, so we looked for something to do. We were so glad to have found this Museum. There are fascinating displays of a 300-year old farmer's bedroom, craftsman's workshops, the Arthur Ransome gallery and more. Plus we visited the attached Art Gallery which has some beautiful paintings and historical photographs on display.

Nice, I think covers this little museum. Thought a rather narrow coverage of Lakeland activities was in evidence. Would be extremely interesting to Arthur Ransome devotees. Maybe expansion will occur as time passes. Would recommend it for youngsters as would be a novelty for them.

An extremely interesting museum, well cared for and laid out. We arrived very soon after the 10.30 opening and, apart from a rather noisy foreign school party we managed to avoid, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. We particularly enjoyed the Arthur Ransome Gallery where I learnt about him smuggling his girlfriend out of Russia among other things... More

This is a small museum so plan on seeing it in one to two hours. The exhibits are well displayed and info boards provide additional information. Unfortunately besides the entry fee you have to pay for parking. Best for rainy days.
