We walked up from the centre of Kendal (around 15 mins) and then a steep uphill - tricky with a pram! It was a glorious day and the views over Kendal and the Lake District are beautiful. The remains are fun for children to explore...More

We popped along to visit Kendal castle whilst waiting for my brakes to be fixed in town. It's a lovely little stroll through woodland to reveal a largely ruined castle with plenty of history to it. A number of concise information boards give a good...More

The ruins of the castle involves a short uphill walk to the hill top. From here you can view kendal and have great views of the surrounding countryside and mountains. Inside the ruins are information boards with details of the castle's history. Plenty of grass...More

The castle is mostly ruins, but is still fun to walk around and for kids to explore. The views around Kendal are worth it though, I have been twice and each time it has been great.

We spent the last morning of our time in Kendal here at the castle. It was so peaceful and the whole castle (being in ruins) kept with its history, which was clearly noted on boards around the site. A lot of locals walk their dogs...More

Whilst visiting Kendal the castle is a must visit. Following the signs to the summit can be misleading at times as we found out though the woodland is idyllic. The structure itself is in amazing condition and great photo opportunities everywhere. Worth The effort to...More

It is quite a good walk to the castle from the town, but it is worth it for the views alone. The castle is basically a ruin but still of interest. I think we have visited the castle every time we have visited Kendal the...More

The walk up to the castle from Kendal is both relaxing and tiring - given the gradient of the hill in places! The walk is worth it as the views from the castle grounds are spectacular. There's not a lot of the castle itself remaining,...More

Bit of a steep wall up the hill but definitely worth the views. The wall isn't too bad once you get used to it. Lovely ruin to explore. If you want, it would be nice to pack a picnic and take up.
