This embroidery done by hundreds of people should be regarded as worth as much to us as the Bayeux Tapestry. The workmanship is wonderful with only 6 different stitches used. It is well displayed with plentiful explanation on audio handsets. I loved all the animals depicted on many of the panels. Take about an hour to wander round and do... More

Very pleased to hear you enjoyed the exhibition and thank you for your review. The Friendship Quilt you mention is quite amazing - I imagine the good night sleep I would have if I stayed overnight in the museum.... don't think I'd be allowed to climb into the exhibit though! Bridget More

This is a shame - I used to love eating at the old vegetarian tea room. What's the reason for the change?

We needed more people like you to visit more often! Unfortunately the Quaker Tapestry couldn't make the all vegetarian cafe viable - even though the food and the staff were lovely. We have a new owner for the Museum cafe, now called the Courtyard Cafe. Ruth, the new owner, is running this as her own business and managing a wonderful... More

This exhibition is well worth a visit. The embroidered panels are a delight and we marvelled at the exquisite workmanship needed to produce them. We have been more than once because it is not possible to take in everything in just one visit even when staying for a couple of hours. The courtyard cafe serves very good food in pleasant... More

I was disappointed with this exhibition and felt that the entrance charges were a little steep for what it was. We are not Quakers but knew a little about this religion. I came away knowing nothing new. I enjoyed the part about the famous Quakers like Rowntree and Fry this took me back to school days when history lessons allowed... More

On a wet day in Kendal we picked up a leaflet about this attraction in the tourist Information Centre and spent over an hour gasping in wonder at the intricate work of the 77 embroidered panels telling the story of Quakerism. The story of how and why the embroidery was made is as fascinating as the story the panels tell.... More

Thank you for your lovely review. We have new volunteers every week at the exhibition and it sounds as if you came on one of their first training days so thank you for your patience with their till handling. Thank you for Gift Aiding too! Best wishes Bridget More

Interesting exhibition - and a very nice courtyard cafe outside where dogs are welcome and can have a drink of water. (In fact, we were invited to take our dog inside if we wanted, but sat outside in the sun.) Wheelchair accessible, and nice accessible toilet too.

Spent a most enjoyable afternoon at the tapestry exhibition. Everything was so well organised. The tapestries themselves are awe inspiring, just absolutely beautiful. Lots of things to keep children interested. Would certainly visit again and would recommend it to everyone even if you're not that interested in tapestry!

I just love that word - Awesome. Thank you for your review and for recommending the exhibition to everyone. You are quite right, when we persuade those who think it's not for them to come in, they really do enjoy it! It is a very difficult thing to sum-up the experience in one leaflet so word of mouth has always... More

This is really interesting way of telling the story of The Quakers the Tapestries are changed from time to time so it is always worth a look. Unfortunately they have closed down the cafe that served excellent meals but snacks are available and there are plenty of places to get a meal in Kendal. You can park there if you... More

Thank you for your lovely review Peter - the cafe is open though, I wonder when you came? The new cafe opened at the end of April this year and has a wonderful reputation for serving freshly cooked and locally sourced food. Perhaps you can come back soon and sample their delicious food. I had been REALLY looking forward to seeing the tapestry, so my expectations were very high but it was far, far better than I could have imagined. Quite apart from the beauty of the tapestry, it was just so uplifting being there. I learned more Quaker history in a couple of hours than I have learned over the last 3... More

70 beautiful, fascinating embroidered panels telling so many stories. I love embroidery, so thought this would just be interesting to see, but found it was incredibly informative not just about individual Quakers but how much they have done in our society. Two very interesting videos ( with seating and headphones) were very helpful, and there were videos with actors posing... More
