My wife and I got into walking about 6 years ago. We did Helvellyn last year, but didn't have the confidence to do Blencathra sharp edge by ourselves. I booked Mountain Days and we were guided by Darren. He is calm, very experienced and seemed to know every inch of the sharp edge, guiding us and giving advice along the way. There are people who have the knowledge, but its an art to have that and coach people and make them feel at ease. Definitely worth booking if you dont have the confidence in trying a difficult route by yourself.

On the third day of our first visit to the Lake District, with no fellwalking experience between us, Scafell Pike was our baptism of fire. Conscious that the Langdale route wasn't the most direct, and having only ever used a compass in GCSE Maths, having a guide to lead the way seemed the sensible thing to do. On a grey, drizzly morning, we met Imogen in the car park of the Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel. Her warm welcome and explanation of the route we'd be taking immediately settled our nerves before we set off through the valley. The pace was left up to us, our questions were always happily answered, and after 5 minutes of what would be just over a 7 hour hike, I knew it was a case of money well spent! As we made our way up to Rossett Pass, our questions became less frequent and the aches in our legs more difficult to ignore. Thankfully, Imogen somehow knew when a food or water break was needed without us having to say a word. The weather worsened as we reached Angle Tarn and so, after a couple of quick photos and a bite to eat, we decided to push on, with Imogen cheerfully leading the way to Esk Hause and then on to the summit...and then all the way back to the car! From start to finish, Imogen was always on hand to offer help or advice and her manifest expertise and knowledge of the surrounding area was brilliant. We'll definitely be using Mountain Days in the future! Thank you!!!

Lorna guided a friend and I up Scafell pike on a rainy day in July. She was cheery, helpful and knowledgable. She set the pace to match ours and was happy to stop and rest when we needed to. It was much harder coming down especially in the rain and Lorna was great at making sure we could do so safely. I would highly recommend mountain days for any tours. We had a fantastic experience.

My wife and I are keen walkers. We have done quite a lot of mountains but have always followed the paths or asked for directions. I decided with me wanting to get into winter walking and to help plan my own routes etc that a navigational day would be a good idea. We were accompanied by Lorna for a trip up Helvellyn to include Striding and Squirrel edge (as my wife calls it) to take in the ridge walk to give my wife some more confidence on ridges. We had a fantastic day (and discovered that our compass isn't actually broken)!! Lorna is extremely friendly and helpful and obviously very knowledgeable. We were very lucky with the weather and, went at a good pace to suite, achieved the walk and learnt so many good skills. We both now have the confidence to plan a route, how long it will take, understanding map features, orientating a map, taking a bearing and learning about pacing, distance and timing. Lorna was also happy to give advise on my winter walking preparation. A fantastic day, very recommended and will book again for winter Scotland in future. Andy and Amanda

The two guides, Lorna and Imogen were indefatigable, cheerful and fun. The hike was energetic, crisp and a lovely way to introduce ourselves to the Lake Country in England. None of the group had been in this part of England before and to be able to hike up a classic Lake Country route to see Scotland in the distance in good weather was amazing. The sheep on the hillside that came to examine us as we ate lunch by the tarn were funny as some were shaggy and others had been shorn of their winter coats. It is a busy hike as we had several groups meet us on the trails. Lorna and Imogen had extra everything that we might have needed and were able to cheer us on our way. A great day. Thank you
