We did the Via Ferrata Xtreme and it was incredible! We were both quite nervous beforehand but our guide, Gary was very reassuring and helpful and made sure that he checked in with us regularly throughout the course. We are two reasonably fit people in our 50s and managed everything ok, though in places it was pretty challenging and scary! You do need to have a good head for heights and a reasonable amount of upper body strength as some of the climbing and traverses are on a sheer drop to the pass below and there were some sections of overhang, but it's exhilarating and exciting and gives you a real sense of achievement and adventure. Everything was done with high levels of safety and care in mind, and even though there were moments when the adrenaline really kicked in, we never felt unsafe. The views from the top over Buttermere, Crummock Water and back to the surrounding peaks are wonderful. Thank you to Gary and to the Honister team....what an amazing experience!!

Honister Mine is one of my favourite places in the lakes- it's interesting in its own right but its location is incredible. The cafe is well worth a visit with reasonably priced coffee and cakes

We did Via Ferrata Xtreme, it was excellent! You need a head for heights and you do go through some narrow tunnels. There's a good variety of up, down, across and overhangs. Our guide Nic made us feel secure with the safety instructions and encouragement and was very knowledgeable about the history of the mine, flora etc. Great views especially at the end. Thanks Nic!

My fiance and I booked the Via Ferrata Extreme and I cannot recommend it enough! It's great fun, challenging in places but nothing a fit and active person can't achieve. The climbing is all on iron rungs so no need for technical experience. There are a few overhangs that require a bit of upper body strength to manoeuvre around but again, nothing too taxing. At the end of the climbing there is a short but steep walk to reach the top, easy to accomplish and well worth the fantastic views. I would advise booking an afternoon slot in very hot weather so that you can enjoy the shade as you climb- we went at 1pm and earlier groups looked rather lathered! Our guide, Jess, was an absolute star and took the experience from amazing to once in a lifetime. Jess was friendly, professional and helpful, showed us exactly how to safely operate our gear and told us fun facts about the local area and the slate mine. She took some amazing pics (as I had joked I wanted a new profile picture from the experience!) and she did not disappoint. She forewarned us of any bits that would be more challenging, and even whipped out the kendal mint cake when the steep final walk had some of us flagging. Thank you, Jess!
