Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Surprise view is amazing. Clear blue skies and you can see for miles. We’ve also been on a rainy day and it’s just as impressive. Watched the clouds and mist rollin in over Derwent

A truly lovely sight, stunning views and peaceful. Well worth the visit. Only piece of advice is keep your dogs on a lead, it's a very long drop down.

Spectacular views overlooking the lake well worth a visit. There are few car parks for this location one at the bottom of the hill another further up with a 30 minute walk and one at the top next to location. Spaces are sparse. The parking is pay but coins or phone payment only signal isn't great so make sure you have plenty of coins.

Well worth the drive up the twisty road.
You can just park up and enjoy the view, or go for a walk in the woodlands

The views from this spot are truly great. However, you get even more spectacular and panoramic views if you hike up the catbells nearby.

Truly worthwhile if up a bit of dodgy road - very narrow and steep so I'd bear that it mind if you drive a bigger car. The Ashness bridge in particular was very narrow - but there are several car parks on the way up if you want to park somewhere safer and walk up.

There's no describing the view though - it's glorious even on a cloudy day. You can see for miles and gives you a real taste of the sheer majesty of the area. So glad we went up.

My only complaint was that you were charged to park - there's no proper car parks, just gravel, no toilets, water stand or something to actually maintain - but you're charged a £10 for just 30 minutes

A lovely place to go for a walk or to look at the scenic views. Nearby the town too. Some lovely photos from my other half (photographer) of surprise view on the wall in my house!
It's never ever too busy to park either when you go up to the top.

Great little spot, really easy access, extortionate car park prices but if you’re happy to get fleeced by the national trust then it’s definitely worth a visit.

Drove up here (bit harrowing of a drive) but totally beautiful overlook. Highly recommend! A bit out of the way.
