- Valerie B5 contributionsBrilliant staff and activityTwo young teenage boys had a superb morning here. Jack was a great climbing coach gauging the boys ability and level of challenge needed. Good facility with cafe. Safety conscious but in a very pleasant way which was very reassuring. Highly recommended.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 November 2023

Called here to use the cafe with a group of 11 motorbiking friends, this after phoning them 2 or 3 days earlier to let them know and check that they would be able to cope, we were reassured when the lady on the phone said they could do soup, sandwiches, cakes and drinks, so our visit was confirmed our visit. We arrived as planned to an empty business, with one person in the cafe, totally overwhelmed at our arrival, the menu board said soup, and a selection of sandwiches, upon placing my order for soup in was told they hadn't got any, so asking for the selection of sandwiches I was told ham and brie was available and a maximum of 5 bacon rolls, the lad in the kitchen did his best with what he had available and all 11 of us got something to eat.... just, including 2 people having crisp sandwiches. It was all very disappointing and we won't be going again, we didn't try the climbing walls but they looked good fun, just don't expect too much from the cafe.

Booked a canoe session for myself and my daughter (8) who was a bit apprehensive however once we got out on the water utterly loved it.
Jack R was our instructor and he was absolutely fantastic, super knowledgeable about the local area and we got to cover a large amount of the lake in our 3 hour session.
The weather was great and we had the wind behind us on the way back. Facilities were great and made everything easy and stress free.
Highly recommended way to spend a few hours on the lake.

Thank you for the lovely review and we are pleased that you all had such a good time with Jack R exploring Derwentwater. Hope that we can take you adventuring again the next time you are in the Lakes, regards, Debbie and the KCW Team.

We have an annual trip the Lakes and it always involves an activity with Keswick Climbing Wall & Outdoor Activity Centre. This year it was canoeing and our host Jack was superb, in fact it was like having an extra family member with us. He explained everything so well, helped with the children’s confidence and made the afternoon such good fun. Jack was really easy going so spending an afternoon never felt awkward, he just kept chatting and explaining things about the area. He got my son in the water for a swim which was a major achievement but that was soon topped when he had him jumping off the quay, Jack instilled a new level of water confidence in my son which was great to see.
We will definitely book another activity next time we visit.

We would be delighted to see you all again the next time you are in the Lakes and why not try a Ghyll Scramble with your new found confidence in water !! Regards, Debbie and the KCW Team

We were on a short walk to the stone circle from Burns Farm campsite and discovered people zip lining through the woods. This looked great so me and my 8 year old son decided to part take. The staff here are brilliant, reassuring and knowledgeable which made our son feel at ease. We enjoyed the zip line so much we decided to go kayaking with the same centre on Derwent Water the next day. We got the same instructor (Elliott) for both the zip line and kayaking and again he was fantastic with my son and the other participants. I would certainly recommend these guys to anyone and I'm sure we will certainly be back again to test the climbing wall out, unfortunately we just ran out of time during our stay. The centre also does a range of other activities and has a lovely coffee shop which is handy for refreshments. This is a great place to visit if you like your outdoor activities.

Visited Rookery Woods for a 4 year old's birthday party. We were the only group there at 9:30am and even as it got busier in the morning there was still plenty of space for everyone. We stayed until after midday, but could easily have spent the whole day. The guys let us have our picnic inside using the benches associated with the cafe, which was perfect as the weather outside was a bit dank. I doubt that any outdoor play park in the country has views as good as these. Even on a cloudy day. Excellent value.Fantastic day had by everyone. Highly recommended.

Our kids aged 11 and 13 had a go at the indoor climbing wall a couple of weeks ago. They really enjoyed the lesson (with four other children) and were pleased to have managed to reach the top!
The lesson was well-managed and the children were able to continue to climb on the smaller walls afterwards, as long as we supervised.
Cafe served decent food too.
Would definitely return to try some other activities.

We dropped our daughter and her friend off as we had booked the high ropes course for them. As this was planned to last 3 hours we then explored the lakes and arrived back early.
We were surprised to see them given that there should have been just under an hour left - they were slightly underwhelmed and didn't find the instructor very helpful.
Disappointing given the cost.

We took our two children, aged 8 and 12 for a one hour climbing session with an instructor l. This cost £75 and was well worth it.
The instructor (Jack R.) was fantastic: friendly, enthusiastic, helpful and supportive.
The location is beautiful, situated very close to Castlerigg stone circle. We didn't try any food or drinks at the café but it is useful to have this facility at a climbing wall and outdoor activity centre outwith a town.
Great stuff, we'll be back each holiday in future!

Group of older kids (30 year olds) had a brilliant time doing the Ghyll Scramble on a warm afternoon in early September. Andy was our guide and he was absolutely brilliant. He managed to successfully walk the tightrope of absolute safety with comedy. It was loads of fun and I really can’t recommend these guys enough. We would have loved to join Andy for beers in the evening (as he had the next day off) but we ended up staying in that evening - classic.

We had five children aged 8 and 5 and Jack was extremely good at keeping them all in check whilst ensuring that we all had fun! He showed us the basics of some of the knot techniques and made sure everyone was involved at each climb. Thanks a million. Great activity any time of year but especially during this storm!

Hello and thank you for the message. So sorry that I am late in replying - just picked up your message. We are dog friendly and welcome dogs in the climbing wall, the cafe and in the grounds but not in the children's play area (Rookery Woods) and not on the actual climbing mats in the climbing wall - there are plenty of spectator areas that they can sit in. Hope that helps, sorry about the delay in replying , regards, Debbie
