Two young teenage boys had a superb morning here. Jack was a great climbing coach gauging the boys ability and level of challenge needed. Good facility with cafe. Safety conscious but in a very pleasant way which was very reassuring. Highly recommended.

Just a few yards from the Castleriggs Stone Circle. We didn’t partake in any of the activities but enjoyed a hot drink in the cafe, very welcome

We used this wonderful centre twice whilst we were on holiday in the area. Every single member of staff were polite, helpful, friendly and professional. We would particularly like to thank the lovely lady in the office, Cal, Matt and Jai. Also the very friendly man who runs the cafe - reasonably priced food and drinks served with a smile and a chat.
Our 13 year old daughter did indoor (was supposed to be outdoors but the good old British weather let us down!) climbing which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her Dad was taught how to “hold the ropes” (can’t remember the proper word for it!) whilst she climbed so that on future visits here (and elsewhere) he will be able to do that for her. There are many walls to climb indoors of differing heights and difficulty so she was suitably challenged!
On our second visit daughter did the tree top adventure (a short walk away) which was amazing. She was very lucky in that there was only herself and one other child in their group so they had lots of attention and excellent instruction from Matt. She loved every minute of it. She then did the zip wire and abseiling off the tower (back at the centre). She also enjoyed these.
This centre is a fabulous place for children and adults of all ages. There are so many different activities that you can do. There are places to sit outside to eat a picnic or food purchased from the cafe. The only “downside” is that the car park is quite small. We were lucky to get a space - someone drove out as we drove in.
We will definitely be returning here during future holidays in the area.

We enjoyed a great day out with our 4 yr old son at rookery woods (part of the Keswick climbing wall centre) . Didn’t know what to expect but it was absolutely brilliant for young children so many different things to do. Our son didn’t want to leave & loved finding all the sheep hidden around! Brilliant value at £5 for kids (stay as long as you like) & free parking , adults free! You put other places to shame. Staff so friendly and welcoming to us all . We will definitely be back next year and would highly recommend if you have little ones!

Hey there,
Sounds like you and your 4-year-old had a blast at Rookery Woods! We're stoked you both had such a great time.
Your son's enthusiasm for our activities and sheep hunt is awesome, and we're thrilled he enjoyed it.
And our pricing? Yeah, we're all about giving you a bang for your buck. Just £5 for the little ones, and adults get in free – now that's what we call a deal!
Our friendly staff loves welcoming guests like you, and we can't wait to see you all again next year for more family fun.
Thanks for the awesome review!
Cheers,

This was the second time we have visited. Our kids (13 and 15) spent a good few hours there. They had a go at field archery in the morning. It was just the two of them with the instructor, Jay. They practised on the indoor range first and then went around the forest, shooting at targets. We were able to walk round with them and take our dog.
We had lunch, sitting outside, which was nice.
In the afternoon, they had a go at the climbing wall, which they had done before. Jay took them for this as well. He was very friendly and knowledgeable.
A good day!

Hey Thomisa,
We're thrilled you chose to visit us again, and it warms our hearts to hear you had a great day with your kids.
It sounds like they had a fantastic time with field archery guided by Jay, both indoors and in the forest. Lunch outdoors and the climbing wall in the afternoon added to the fun.
We are glad to hear that Jai was friendly and knowledgeable and that his guidance made a difference, and we appreciate your kind words.
We can't wait to welcome you all back for more adventures. Thanks for sharing your positive experience!
Best regards,

Fabulous gem of a climbing centre. Gorgeous views out to the fells and a super cafe. The climbing packs a lot of complexity into what initially looked like a small space. 2 teenagers both enjoyed it for 3 hours. Lots of overhanging walls gave a good challenge value despite not having lots of height to play with. Also short walk to 360degree panoramic views from nearby stone circle well worth making a short detour to.

Hello Jo,
Thank you for your fantastic review! We're thrilled to hear you found our Climbing Wall to be a fabulous gem with stunning views and a superb café. We know it's hard to find all 3 of them so we are glad to hear we hit the mark!
It's wonderful to know that both teenagers had a great time exploring the complexity of our climbing walls, and the challenge they found on our overhanging walls made for an exciting experience.
We look forward to welcoming you back for more adventures in the future. Your feedback means the world to us!

I can’t rate Rookery Woods highly enough! We took our 4 and 7 year olds whilst on holiday in the Lake District and spent the whole day there. The facility is first class with everything built to such a high quality. The play park is so imaginative and creative, our kids had so much fun (and the adults too lol)
We spent the morning doing the sheep round up and orienteering worksheet. This was enjoyed by all of us and a great family activity. Finding all the numbers in the orienteering was a challenge but we got them all in the end! Stopped for our picnic lunch at the picnic tables (there is also a nice cafe) then spent the afternoon in the incredible play areas.
This is such a great place and exceptional value for money!

It sounds like you and your family had a blast during your visit. Our top-notch facility is designed for all ages to enjoy, and it warms our hearts to hear that both the little ones and the adults had a blast in the imaginative and creative play park. Who says playtime is just for kids, right? 😉
The Sheep hunt and Orienteering worksheet are fantastic ways to get everyone involved and have some family fun. We love a good challenge, and it's impressive that you conquered the orienteering task together!
Your words about exceptional value for money put a big smile on our faces. We strive to provide unforgettable experiences without breaking the bank.
We can't wait to welcome you back for even more family fun in the future. Thanks for being such amazing guests and for sharing the love!

This review is for Rookery Woods at the Keswick Climbing Centre. At £5 each, this was a great value day out for our two kids, aged 4 and 7. We arrived at about 11am and stayed for 5 hours!! We all loved the orienteering, and finding all the sheep! The play parks were very well maintained, clean, and had lots of engaging puzzles and activities for the kids. Spotlessly clean cafe and toilets, very friendly staff. What a great job you’re all doing, would highly recommend to anyone with kids!

This is a place for groups of first time climbers, it's not set up for people wanting to climb and progress at all. When we went it was crowded to the point of being dangerous. Several large groups took over the majority of the wall space and bouldering wall all at the same time. A section of the wall has a significant overhang which means anyone falling swings out into the middle of the room. When belaying if you stood out of the fall line of your own climber you were in the way of the climber on the next panel, it was basically just a massive game of human skittles. At one point an instructor (it was unclear whether he was centre staff or external) physically shoved me out of the way to get to an inexperienced belayer who was struggling to lower her climber. Fair enough he responded quickly when he saw a situation but he didn't even acknowledge me or the fact he almost gave me whiplash. I was standing in a normal belaying position when he did this.
It started to rain heavily at one point and two full coachloads of toddlers then used the climbing wall to shelter from the rain, and parents and staff didn't make much effort to stop them stepping on ropes, running underneath climbers, and distracting belayers. It was a mess.
We left before we were even warmed up. This place might be good fun for groups and I understand this is where the centre probably makes the most money but I'd recommend anyone just wanting to climb make the drive to Kendal instead as you'll be very disappointed with this place.

Dear sallyaM2625RQ ,
Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent visit to our climbing wall. We truly appreciate your input, as it helps us identify areas for improvement and make necessary adjustments to enhance our guests' experiences.
We are genuinely sorry to hear that your visit did not meet your expectations and that you encountered some challenges during your time at the climbing wall. Your concerns about overcrowding and safety are important to us. We strive to strike a balance between accommodating various groups and ensuring a safe and enjoyable climbing environment for all our guests.
Regarding the incident with the instructor, internal or external that should not happen and we apologise for any inconvenience and discomfort you experienced. This is not the level of service we aim to provide, and we will address this issue internally to ensure it doesn't happen again in the future.
We also acknowledge your concerns about the toddlers and their presence on the climbing wall during the rain. Unfortunately we only have a certain amount of indoors space so when the rain comes it can get crowded when Rookery Woods is busy. We will revisit our policies and procedures to prevent such disruptions and maintain safety standards.
As for your comment about encouraging climbers to go to a different wall, as much as your allowed to your own opinion, we would whole heartedly disagree with this comment. To say experienced climbers WILL be disappointed in this place simple is not true, and we have plenty of reviews not just on TripAdvisor but across many different reviewing platforms to prove that. We have some fantastic routes set by some of the best climbers in the area to give even the top climbers a challenge. So all we would say is, we may not be the biggest wall or have the most space however we do have some great climbing for all abilities and we would love for everyone to come find out for themselves.
We genuinely hope you would consider giving us another chance in the future to provide you with a more positive experience. Please feel free to reach out to us directly if you have any further comments or suggestions. Your input is vital to our ongoing efforts to make our Climbing Wall a better place for climbers of all levels.
Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns, and we look forward to the opportunity to serve you better in the future.
Warm regards,
Keswick Climbing Wall Team

Hello and thank you for the message. So sorry that I am late in replying - just picked up your message. We are dog friendly and welcome dogs in the climbing wall, the cafe and in the grounds but not in the children's play area (Rookery Woods) and not on the actual climbing mats in the climbing wall - there are plenty of spectator areas that they can sit in. Hope that helps, sorry about the delay in replying , regards, Debbie
