We drove to the theatre on Saturday 15th Jan. Arriving at 5:30pm so we could get dinner in Keswick prior to our 7:00pm show we parked in the large car park adjacent to the theatre. It was £3 to park however they have the most ridiculous regulation that daytime parking ends at 7:00pm - so if you are staying later... More

I hope the good citizens of Keswick and the surrounding area realise just how lucky they are in having this wonderful theatre with all of its talented staff on their doorstep. I say this because on the evening we attended, there were large gaps in the audience. This may, of course, been due to the time of the year (... More

We stopped off for a coffee whilst visiting Keswick. Lovely atmosphere, great coffee & tea and although we didn't eat there the food looked great 👍🏻

We have visited the Theatre a few times and I think this is one of the best productions I have seen. An adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson magical fairy tale, the story isn't as well known as some so I did wonder if the younger children would understand but the production was amazing and had all children spell bound... There is a lot going for this theatre. 1. It has good music and drama productions on its main and studio stages. 2. Several visiting companies put on shows here. 3.It has its own restaurant where you can get refreshments, snacks or pre-theatre dinner. 4.It has ample parking, though expensive before 7PM 5.Last but not least it is in a... We were here to see The Emperor and the Nightingale, adapted from the HC Anderson story, The Nightingale and produced in the Chinese opera style. The play was absolutely delightful and kept the children spellbound. A lovely small theatre, opened by Dame Judy Dench, reeked of local history and the performance did not disappoint. There is a café for snacks... More

Arrived just before 1pm for a bite of lunch before matinee at 2pm.. Food didn't arrive until 1.45, after chasing it twice. And what arrived was dreadful - the "pies" were just thin soups with cheap puff pastry on top (photo is of the "steak" pie), and the salad was plain and dry with only iceberg lettuce leaves. Very disappointed... More

As a reasonably frequent visitor to the 'Theatre by the Lake' I reckon this is a wonderful place in so many respects. Firstly, its location must be one of the most picturesque in the British Isles. Next, the standard and variety of plays, shows and spectacles on offer throughout the year tend to be as good, if not better than... More

The production in the Theatre was excellent in every respect. Our pre-Theatre meal in the cafe was awful. Ordered one choice from three for main course, then told ten minutes later it wasn't available. Seated at a table with a draught, and waited 30 minutes for our main course. Two portions arrived followed five minutes later by two others. Had... More

Lovely new building is an addition to the existing cafe in the theatre itself. Excellant views over Derwentwater and outside seating during the summer. Good coffee and cake- with very helpful staff and dogs allowed in the lower part of the cafe.
