Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We came to the Lake District to climb Scafell Pike to raise money for charity and thought we could do it ourselves until we researched and realised it was a trickier mountain than we anticipated and the winds and low visibility could have made it pretty dangerous. So we got in touch with Lakeland and booked in with Carol to guide us up to the top. Just receiving the information pack put us at ease knowing we were in good hands. And Carol was amazing. She set a very steady pace, and took us the best route including one that avoided all the slippery stones on the way down. She was a joy to be with and made the whole experience so much more enjoyable knowing we didn't have to worry about navigating (if we were left to our own devices we probably would have climbed scafell instead of scafell pike :)). Highly recommend

We went with our charity PWSA UK on Sunday 17th of September to scale Scafell Pike. The 3 guides we had Sharon, Fliss and Rob were absolutely excellent. We had a mix of abilities but the guides made sure everyone had a super experience. They encouraged and supported all the walkers and we couldn’t fault them. We are already looking at doing Snowdon with them next year and many of the same group are keen to join us. If you are looking for great guides and super back up from the base we would definitely recommend them. Many thanks to the Lakeland Mountain Guides.

We decided to use a guide to walk the iconic Helvellyn route from Glenridding via Striding Edge and Swirral Edge. Having been with LMG before we were happy to join Dava on an open day. As usual our LMG guide ensured that we had enough support to complete this challenge safely and with big smiles on our faces.

If you want some brilliant fun which is adrenaline fuelled but always feels perfectly safe then try the Eskdale ghyll experience. Our guide James looked after us really well and the easy walk in was probably nearer 45 mins with all the jumps and swimming pretty close. Great views too! Just fun!!

My friend and I summited Scafell Pike with the gentle and professional guidance of Carol. The adventure began with precise and clear communication from the home office. We knew we were in competent hands the minute we met Carol and we were not disappointed.

We are experienced hikers and appreciated the care with which the trip was organized, including the 360 degree view we enjoyed from the summit. Carol's knowledge of the history of the area, the native plants and the resident animals added a personal touch.

I've traveled in many countries to hike and explore and I found this trip to be exceptional. Don't doubt your choice if you decide to go with Lakeland Mountain Guides. Just know, you can't always count on the weather.

Helvellyn has been top of my list of must-do climbs for a while. Previous to this my most challenging was Haystacks. Even though I'd done a load of research, I wanted to make sure I'd be 100% safe (or as safe as possible) so choose a 1 to 1 escorted guide from Lakeland Mountain Guides. Unfortunately my original guide, Matt, emailed the day previous to say he;'d been involved in an accident and couldn't make it but he had provided a replacement, Carol.

Well, no disrespect Matt, but I'd struggle to see how you could have improved on what Carol delivered!!! :-). It was an amazing walk with perfect weather which meant breathtaking views. But the whole experience was massively enhanced by Carol's expertise and her knowledge of the area; genuine enthusiasm for the Lake District. But, importantly, it was clear that she knew what she was doing and not once did I feel unsafe. But although I didn't feel unsafe, that doesn't mean to say it wasn't scary in places, It was; ignore people who say to you "Striding Edge? Ah it's a doddle". It really isn't - it's hard work and that's why a guide like Carol helps - to give you that reassurance that you're doing OK. The sense of achievement is enormous.

I would have no hesitation is recommending Lakeland Mountain Guides and will probably use them again myself at some point.

If you do use them and your guide is Carol - REMEMBER THE JELLY BABIES!!!

I'm a personal trainer & was looking at organising a 'moderate' difficulty challenge & a more advanced challenge for clients of different abilities.

Matt was extremely helpful in organising 2 hiking challenges in the space of a few weeks. A large group of us took on the Edale Skyline challenge, with a smaller group of us completing the Borrowdale 10.

I couldn't have asked for more in terms of the whole experience. Communication & organisation was quick & easy in the build up to the challenges & the challenges themselves were brilliant & exactly what I wanted for my clients- challenging but achievable! We had 4 guides in total & all were knowledgeable, helpful & made sure everyone got through it.

I did 2 guided hikes with them.
Catbells with Sharon on a Saturday, she was so kind and ever encouraging (I know I'm not in top shape after all those delicious food every day). Very knowledgable about the area and different possible routes as well. Really a great day out!
Haystacks with Matt on a weekday, I was a little bit intimidated by the fog and wet weather in the early morning and wondered whether the walk is possible. Turns out, it was definitely possible! With Matt's expert guidance, we navigated and made it across different terrains, and the sun came out just as we reached the Inominate Tarn!
Excellent guidance and definitely recommended.
