About
As far as we know, the Keswick Alhambra Cinema is the sixth oldest continuously-running cinema in the UK. The original, single screen Edwardian auditorium remained open throughout both world wars and has only ever closed for any length of time for the Covid lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. In 2021 we completely refurbished the cinema, adding a second, 29 seater studio screen, digital laser projection and Dolby sound systems, creating a beautiful lobby and reception space, and cleaning and repointing the facade. Today the two-screen Alhambra shows a wide range of films, from mainstream to arthouse, with a choice to appeal to all ages and tastes, together with the best of the world's theatre, ballet and opera, relayed live by satellite several times a month. Open every day of the year, including Christmas Day, and always offering a warm welcome.

Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fabulous visit to the Keswick Alhambra Cinema this week to see Mission Impossible! Love the character of the cinema, great clear screen whilst sitting front row of the balcony. The ice cream and malteesers were great as was the price and helpful friendly service on arrival. Loved the quirky loo's too x Would have given five stars for more leg room as the seating was amazingly comfortable but felt a but tight where we sat . Would deffo recommend a visit x

This cinema is real blast from the past. A stunning old-fashioned cinema with 2 screens. The main screen has a balcony, something we've never seen in a cinema before as a relatively young couple. They have some sofa-styled seating which are fantastic for couples - we really enjoyed those. Great screen size, comfortable seating, sensibly priced drinks and snacks, and beautiful decor in the toilets. A must-visit or all Keswick visitors! Fantastic.

Excellent cinema. Much better than the big multi screens. Staff are always very friendly. The drinks and snacks range is also very good.

What a wonderful gem the Alhambra Cinema is. Had the pleasure of visiting on a snowy day in Keswick recently and the Alhambra is a welcome and wonderful world away from large soulless multiplex cinemas. It’s a beautiful retro step-back into how films should be presented and watched - and is a huge credit to its owners and staff. From the friendly faces in the well-stocked and impeccably-run foyer area to the magnificent screen auditoria (via the amazingly decorated toilets!) my visit was a pleasure from start to finish. The staff go out of their way to accommodate visitors’ requests (mobility issues, access etc) and it’s a nice feeling knowing your visit is so important and special to them. On a technical level, the film I saw (All Quiet On The Western Front) was impeccably presented with amazing sound and visuals and my cinema seat (tall captain-style with cupholders and armrests) was superbly comfortable with plenty of leg room. The Alhambra offers so many more opportunities than ‘just’ going to see a film and is an enterprise worthy of all our support. It really is an absolute treat and, whatever film you go to see, you’ll enjoy a cinematic experience rarely found elsewhere. Go support it and help keep independent cinema - and the people who love it and provide it - thriving. To all at The Alhambra, thank you for making my visit very special.

Been going regularly to the film club and the cinema. Excellent new renovations but still keeping an authentic cinema feel. Also particularly want to thank the cinema staff for their enthusiasm and knowledge of film. John Porter take a bow!
