I have just completed a thoroughly enjoyable 2 day photography workshop with Martin Lawerence. Martins Knowledge of Landscape photography is exceptional. He teaches with great enthusiasm and passion. I learnt so much from how to set my camera up. He talked about all the camera functions from Manual control, focus, ISO and White Balance, how to compose a perfect landscape image in the most amazing locations. Martin is an extremely nice guy who I found easy to get on with. If your looking for a professional, friendly workshop look no further than Martin Lawerence. He also has an awesome knowledge of The Lake District.

Cheers Neil for this lovely review. It was a pleasure spending two great days together in the lakeland fells. I enjoyed your company and I'm glad you learnt a lot. Hope to see you in autumn when the lakeland colours are at their best.

I was looking for individual tuition as I had been on several group workshops and they did not provide the degree of tuition I felt I needed. I found Martin’s website and was impressed by the reviews.
As a woman on my own I was slightly anxious about meeting Martin in the dark at Castlerigg in Keswick. I need not have been. Martin soon put me at ease and I felt entirely comfortable in his company.
Martin gave clear explanations of the steps that we would put into practice throughout the day. He checked that I understood by asking questions at appropriate intervals during the initial tuition and again when we were out taking photographs.
After I returned home I looked at the photographs which I took during the workshop. I am delighted with their quality and really feel that I have learnt the skills to achieve the same results when I am out on my own.
I am looking forward to undertaking further workshops with Martin in the future.

Hi Angela
Thanks for your very kind words and I'm glad that you enjoyed your workshop. I couldn't believe how lucky we were with the weather!
It's always great to see someone go away with some dramatic images which the weather provided nicely for us. Look forward to meeting you next year on another workshop.
Best regards
Martin

I booked a 1-2-1 session with Martin.
The day started at 6.00am out at Castlerigg so you will need to stay overnight nearby (I stayed at Vale in the Lodge - 8 mins by car) unless you live close by.
It was late October - so dark - when we met up - but meeting was easy and Martin is extremely amiable.
First was a refresher of the basics (relationship of ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed) which was really useful reinforcement of many things. I learned some critical new things as well.
Around 7.30 we started the practical at the magical Castlerigg Stone Circle against the fell backdrops of Skiddaw and Blencathra.
Martin focuses on how to use your gear and a lot of time and guidance is provided on composition (critical to landscapes). It is good if you have your own gear (camera, tripod and wide angle lens) - filters (soft grad) are desirable but Martin has some to borrow if his adaptors are compatible with your lens (Martin checks what gear you have before the course).
We then moved on to Tewet Tarn and then Derwent Water - I was amazed (at the latter venue) as to how you can still get great photos with so many people around.
I can highly recommend and will probably do another session once I have worked on the current learnings.

I wanted to learn how to properly use my camera and also wanted to create an art project using photography. Martin was brilliant. As a female on my own I felt completely at ease with him, and his ability to teach the technical aspects was fantastic. The locations that we went to were simply brilliant, and I was able to put what I had learned into practice later in my holiday. I felt this was an excellent course and was also brilliant value. Thank you Martin!

I had a brilliant day with Martin, the course is great fun and Martin has a wealth of knowledge and is a great teacher and seriously enthusiastic. I got some wonderful images from the day and I feel a lot more confident in my camera ability. I couldn't recommend this course more.

Me and my mum booked a landscape photography class with Martin on the 4th of October. Unfortunately the weather on that day was not ideal but Martin continued to give us the best option for the photography class, so we did some more photography on the 5th of October instead, which was way more sunny. Martin is a very friendly tutor and explains very well, he made us understand the utmost fundamentals of landscape photography and interesting techniques using ND filters and the big stopper. I can definitely apply this to my photography skills to further enhance my landscape photography. He also explained the use of photoshops and post processing after taking pictures very well also. So I definitely recommend everyone taking a class with Martin, he's a great professional photographer.

Thanks Tap for your kind review. I'm glad that you were both free the following day to complete the practical part of the course. Its not much fun taking images in the rain and gale force winds!!

My husband and I booked a 2-day photography course with Martin in the Lake District and we weren’t disappointed. Martin’s style of tutoring is friendly and relaxed and he is so enthusiastic about imparting his considerable technical knowledge and ensuring that you have a good experience. He quickly understood our level of photographic knowledge and what we wanted to achieve and tailored the 2-days accordingly.
Martin’s knowledge of the local area was invaluable, especially as we had inadvertently booked during half term so it was very busy, however, he managed to find places that were empty/very quiet so we could take our time and get some great images.

Hi Rebecca and Tony
So glad that you both enjoyed your day. You certainly got some great images to take away with you!
Im glad that you enjoyed visiting some of my favourite places in the lake district. You are right - it can be very busy - but there are still those undiscovered spots where you will still see practically no-one all day that are perfect to add to a photographic itinerary.
Enjoy your travels wherever they may take you and I hope to see you both again sometime.

Just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you once again for a great day on Friday. Both Jim and myself learned a tremendous amount and I have confidence that I can now take great landscape shots. The techniques passed on have allowed me to take a giant leap in quality and consistency taking pin sharp images and controlling over exposure of the sky. Your passion for Landscape Photography was infectious and your relaxed approach and the excitement generated made it really easy to learn. It was the quickest 8 hours I have experienced with a camera and definately one of the most enjoyable. Love to do it again sometime. Thanks also to my wife for such a fantastic birthday gift.

For my 60th Birthday I wanted a camera so I could do some nice snap shots as I travelled around the Lincolnshire Wolds. Not only did I get a lovely Nikon D5300 DSLR, my wife had also secretly bought me a one day Landscape Photography Course with Martin Lawrence. We travelled to the Lake district on my Birthday, 23rd Feb. staying at a gorgeous hotel in Grassmere (Rothay Gardens). I Phoned Martin on arrival and arranged to meet early on Friday morning at Castlerigg Stone Circle. I had some briefing notes from Martin and so was prepared for the day. After the first couple of hours of meeting Martin he had talked me through my new camera and lenses and then onto various locations around Keswick using different techniques to get the best out of the camera. Martin had even arranged for some fantastic weather. Finished the day off at Martin's lodge reviewing the pictures and talking through Photoshop. We selected a couple of stunning photos (out of hundreds of stunning photos) which Martin is going to print and frame for me. I loved the whole experience and would thoroughly recommend this one to one course whatever your level of experience. I couldn't even spell neutral density graduated filters before the course and now I actually know how to use them effectively! Thank you so much Martin for making it a wonderful day with tuition that will I am sure, last me a lifetime.

A day of one to one tuition with Martin gave me so much more understanding of my camera and how to get good landscape shots. He's so courteous and helpful that I was completely at ease all day, able to concentrate on the photograph. Seizing the moment for snatched shots of the early morning light through the trees in Castlehead Woods on the way to the most amazing session at Castlehead were real highlights.
I had some worries about my physical fitness but there was no need - a helping hand when needed and encouraging words all the way pushed the arthritis into the background. Highly recommended if you want to take your landscape photography to the next level,

Thanks for this lovely review Maureen. We were very fortunate to witness a fabulous cloud inversion over Derwentwater and to capture it from Castlehead. These events are very few and far between and I'm so glad that we were able to capture this special event on your course.
I'm happy to hear that you learnt so much and that you now have a better understanding of your camera. You were a pleasure to teach and I thoroughly enjoyed your company.
Best regards

I am interested in scheduling a workshop day. I have never been to the Lake District. When I visit it is usually to Devon and I'm really looking forward to exploring and getting some great shots. I cant seem to find your website or email to contact about prices and availability and how far to schedule in advance. Any answers or contact info would be greatly appreciated. I want to make sure and get as much out of my visit as possible.

We are on holiday staying at Bassenthwaite. I was wondering if you would be free to do a 1 to 1 session for my husband on 23/6. I am going to Wool fest in Cockermouth and he really is more into photography than woolly things! My phono no is 07984337090. Would appreciate a call if you are free or have any courses for that day

Hi there
I have checked the weather on several websites for Friday and it is due to rain for most of the day I'm afraid. I really wouldn't want to disappoint your husband by taking him out in such weather spending our time dodging in and out, constantly wiping off our lenses and risking damage to his photography equipment etc... It would be far from ideal. Please contact me again if you are up this way as I really would have loved to have taken your husband out for a photography day.
