    Worth the effort
We started out from castle rigg hall campsite. Quite a steep climb but great news from the top. We then descended through the woods down to the lake. Very steep in places and could be treacherous in wet . Then a lovely walk along the side of the lake back to Keswick.

    A Superb Walk
Yes, finally got round to do a Wainwright. Start small they say, though did not feel small! Went up Springs road way through the farms then up steep bank of grass/dirt, bit of a dip then up again to the main crag. Excellent views. Took the longer way back straight on rather than veering down Cat Gill route as we passed a local on the way who said due to recent rain Cat Gill route rather slippy for descending. Made it longer but enjoyed and not too sore! Highly recommended for a first one.

Beautiful but a little steep in places
This is a really spectacular walk for views! When you finally reach the top you really feel like you’ve worked for it! Very steep in places but generally not too bad under foot. I would recommend taking plenty of time if you plan to do this with children. It’s a fantastic walk though with lots of interesting things to see along the way.

A perfect walk to do with kids if you take your time and go the slightly longer but less steep option. A beautiful waterfall along the way and stunning views at the top.

Walked from Keswick to the location on a six mile round walk. The access path was dry and firm and the views Fantastic . Took a bit of effort but worth it.

Round trip from The Great Wood car park, through the wood and up to Walla Crag, then down to Ashness Bridge back to the car park or the lake shore.

I read a lot of reviews saying this is an easy walk, so if you’re after that make sure you go up the left side path and back the same way!

We walked from lakeside car park, around the lake for a short while before coming up to Walla Crag from the right side (as you’re facing it). This path is very steep, very rocky through the woods. We enjoyed it as relatively experienced walkers but it’s definitely not an easy way up. We then came down the opposite side which is a very easy (but steep in places) grassy bank. Great loop for us, took 2.5hrs including 30min stop at the top. The views are amazing over the lake and long the Valley.

Overall would suggest our route for the loop, wouldn’t fancy coming down the rocky side. Or for the easiest option come up and down the left side.

Beautiful hike up from Keswick side. Going down to the lake side was another story! Pretty rocky on the way down. The views from the top were magnificent
