A nice place to visit especially when fine as there are good gardens and walks the house is quite large and as many others the most popular rooms are open , not the cheapest place for a family but one you would like to see if you like your history

We took a tour of the house which is impressively huge and full from corner to corner with architecture and fine Victorian furniture. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and answered all our questions easily. The walled gardens are very sweet with hedges, topiaries and all the flowers you can imagine. If you have the time, you can also... More

Loved this place and this was unexpected given the other review in August 2016. Especially the house tour by mr. C was very well done. Too bad some of the house and much of the garden is marked private, on the other hand I can understand the resident family needs some privacy as well. Pity no photographs are allowed as... More

I was looking for a garden visit for a couple of "mature" relatives who are a bit less nimble than they once were. I have been here during Potfest and the gardens then are pretty nice, plus are included in the price of entry to the festival. So I was hoping they would, as keen gardeners, be equally impressed. They... More

We visited with our dog so we couldn't sample the tearoom (which seemed to be very popular) or the house which looked impressive from the outside. The gardens were small and overgrown with some of the forest path blocked off and a lot of the land marked as private. Also our dog was on a lead, as instructed on the... More

We were disappointed on arriving to find that the house wasn't open on Mondays and the entrance fee was barely reduced for seeing just the gardens (£6.50 per adult). We wandered round the gardens which were nice, particularly the walled gardens near the house but felt it was still overpriced considering we were only there about an hour and that... More

Visited both house and gardens. Guided tour of the house was good and interesting but disappointed in the garden which was well overgrown and needed a lot of dead heading. Apparently there is only one gardener so I really think if they want to charge £6.50 to see the garden it should be in some reasonable order. Clearly this can... More

Visited yesterday to see Pot Fest and Hutton in the Forest. £6 entry gave all day at the festival and in the gardens. Pot Fest was superb with inspiring pieces of ceramic sculpture and functional stoneware. Gardens as good as ever. Food in the tearoom very good.

A disappointing number of the paths are closed off by 'private' signs. We appreciate that this is also a home, but with a charge of £6.50 per head for the garden alone we hoped to be able to see more. The walled garden was the high point.

Hutton in the Forest is well worth a visit, the house is very interesting and is by guided tour only. The guides are very informative and friendly. The gardens are absolutely beautiful and at the moment are a riot of colour. As soon as you walk into the walled garden the scent of the roses envelops you. There are walks... More
