About
We are a small, family run outdoor company. We specialise in delivering the highest quality ghyll scrambling and canyoning adventures in the Lake District and we have a true passion for what we do. We provide you with the best canyoning wetsuits and equipment on the market. No-one has thicker or warmer wetsuits than us. Our groups are small and intimate to maximise your experience and we are one of the few companies that have "canyoning specific" qualifications. This means you will be in safe hands with a company that truly understands the hydrology hazards and techniques needed within the canyoning environment. We aim to give you the type of memories that will last forever. Minimum age is 12 years and we take out couples, small groups of friends & families.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We wanted to do something different to hiking and cycling in the lakes and this was perfect… an exhilarating and absolutely enjoyable adventure. We laughed so much and had so much fun. Craig was a great guide, we felt in complete safe hands, even when the cliff jumps looked scary and thin, Craig made us feel safe and confident that we could jump and be safe… he was right… even the abseiling and sliding down the gorge we were in complete safe hands… Craig’s equipment is brilliant too, the wet suits he uses are amazing. It was 0 degrees and we expected to freeze being in the water for so long, but he uses excellent equipment that meant we didn’t felt the cold at all for the whole time, we couldn’t believe how warm we could be in minus degree waters in November.
The whole experience was fantastic and we highly recommend this adventure. Craig makes you feel safe and at ease and his chirpy and fun spirit makes for an enjoyable and fun time. We will definitely be back to do his other adventures when we come back to the Lakes again. And we’ve already recommend this to friends and have talked to other friends about returning in the spring. Thank you Craig for a great time 😁

Winter ghyll scrambling has to be one of the best things I have ever done, I can not recommended it enough. It was so much fun from start to finish. Craig and Vickie the instructors were amazing and we didn’t stop laughing. The kit they gave us meant we were not cold at all, despite the water being baltic. We jumped into pools, climbed waterfalls and even flew like superman. I can’t wait to do it again. Amazing fun with a completely amazing company. If you are thinking of booking this, for anytime of year, do not hesitate!

My sister and I did a ghyll scrambling session with Craig (supported by Vickie) and both absolutely loved it. Comms with Craig before and during the activity were excellent and it was clear what we should and shouldn't be doing and when. The equipment provided was also excellent and more than catered for the time of year with the cooler air and water temperatures (we were both toasty in the various wetsuit layers, socks and gloves). Our session was a few days after storm Debi swept through the area so we were a little apprehensive beforehand given the volume of water but Craig put us at ease straight way and we felt safe as we climbed from the bottom to the top of the ghyll. There were many smiles and laughs throughout and a real sense of achievement at the end.

My husband and I went canyoning at copper mines in coniston with Craig. We had an amazing time. Craig is professional and good laugh. We had a ball and highly recommend Crags Adventures. Don’t be put off in the winter Craig has all the gear so you don’t need to worry about freezing. Thank you again Craig. It’s a birthday I’ll always remember.

Went Gyll scrambling with my wife and two sons (in their early 20s) and we all had an amazing time (even me - despite the fact I do not particularly like being in water and am slightly scared of heights!) . The provided equipment was excellent and provided god protection and warmth. Craig's instruction was brilliant - he was always very clear about where to jump or not jump, where to find hand-holds etc and always made sure you felt safe / happy with what to do
Would definitely recommend!

Someone recommended Crags Adventures to me and it was hands down the best recommendation! Vickie was super responsive and able to help book our trip a day before. This was my first time going ghyll scrambling, so there was alot of uncertainty going into this activity. Crag was awesome, very patient, passionate about his company, funny, and awesome guide. I completed the Stickle Ghyll, which was a great experience and the best option for first timers. Overall, I would highly recommend booking with Crags Adventures, it was a great and positive experience.

Hi, is there somewhere to change out of wet clothes afterwards?

I’m American and wondering how to translate a “scramble”. Is that more than a hike?

This is not a walk over loose rocks!!
You will do a small amount of walking but is more involved wading through water and jumps off embankment into river. Also depending on choice will involve climbing up waterfalls with harness and wearing helmet at all times for jumps. Not difficult walking level. But great fun

This looks like so much fun. I'm coming to the lakes with my partner next weekend for my 25th and this is right up our street, although I've no idea what to book on to. Not too sure on the difference of different activities?
Also do you provide all clothing? Apart from trainers etc
Poached egg.

Hi there.
Really good fun, and although we went towards the end of October the wetsuits we were given were well insulated and warm. Fun and engaging instructor who loved his job. Couldn't wish for anything better!

Are activities still open in November? My boyfriend and I wish to do the ghyll scrambling.

Hi Sophie. Some are I’m sure but others don’t have access in the winter like The Big One. You have to take your boyfriend Ghyll Scrambling it’s the best thing ever! and Crags Adventures is epic, Craig’s brilliant. Message them on Facebook about what’s available :)
