- Chqrl0tteManchester, United Kingdom23 contributionsGreat Morning OutI would highly recommend the £8 guided tour. Great value. The staff are knowledgeable and make it very interesting. The only disappointment for my husband was the spitfire stimulator wasn’t in operation that day which he was looking forward to seeing but we still enjoyed it.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 October 2023
- Jenny L3 contributionsFantastic!A secret gem! An aircraft hanger stuffed to the rafters with memorabilia and run by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable team of volunteers. Fantastic, great value and a must see for any history, WW2 or Spitfire fan.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 31 October 2023
- Jean_JeanieLancasterLancaster District, United Kingdom30 contributionsA Blackpool high light - the spitfire simulator is out of this world! We had a museum tour at 11am. Which was run by volunteers who were both enthusiastic and knowledgeable in every area. It gave our family a deeper respect for our heroes from yesterday year whi literally saved our lovely country! At 6pm in the evening we returned for the Spitfire simulator! OMG OMG! Forget your little gaming trash guys! This is a full size Spitfire with working controls. You get dressed in the flying clothes and you get trained to fly a Spitfire! Then you "fly" over the lakes! Engage in a dog flight over the cliffs of Dover. We arrived at 6pm and left at 9.30pm. This is an amazing gift ! Totally uniqueVisited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 31 October 2023
- MrsWYN-RNorth Yorkshire, United Kingdom3,399 contributionsHighly Recommend a VisitHave been trying to visit Hangar 42 for years and eventually made it. Booked online to avoid disappointment and as a military veteran was able to receive a discount. Easy to find down the side of Aldi off Squires Gate Lane, Blackpool. Plenty of parking and well signposted on arrival. Very well organised and staff (volunteers) are all knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Very well laid out within the hangar and a tour leads you to each section where a volunteer delivers information about the exhibits infront. Enjoyed the tour and being able to roam freely on completion of the talks. Cameras welcomed and able to take own photos. Enjoyed looking at the photographs of Blackpool during WW2 and learning more about the presence of the RAF in the town. Steve was particularly interesting to chat to. Thoroughly enjoyed the time spent here and highly recommend a visit.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 November 2023
- Dhanniella W6 contributionsGive it a tryThis is a really good place to visit for fanatics of the RAF and of course Spitfires. I myself am not, but I took my Fiancé who is, and even I enjoyed it. Run very well by what I assume are volunteers. These men are very interesting to listen to, especially the story of the lady riding on the wing of an aircraft by accident. All dressed in costumes which I think makes it more authentic. All the guys were really friendly and entertaining especially " The German".Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 April 2024
- Brian P4 contributionsGreat centre, entertaining and informative. What a great place, the staff were amazing. The inclusive guided tour was both entertaining and informative. I took my 5 year old grandson and we both really enjoyed a few hours at the centre. Parking was free and very close.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 April 2024
- Linda H1 contributionDon't miss a photo sitting in a spitfireLots of knowledgeable volunteers with fascinating information on the exhibits. Added bonus of being able to have your photo taken in a spitfire is something not to miss. Second time I've visited and will come again as didn't go on the flight simulator.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 May 2024
- jevans152Lancashire, United Kingdom17 contributionsExcellent place to viit.We visited Hangar 42 last weekend and it was a truly excellent experience. The crew of Hangar 42 share their obvious enthusiasm and knowledge with visitors and I came away knowing so much more about the aircraft and history. The exhibits were well laid out, accessible to all levels of fitness and ability. A good day out. One minor issue, not the Spitfire exhibition or the wonderful crew of volunteers but families with small children free to roam, cause distractions and spoil the talks to some level. I would not recommend you take small children with you unless you can accompany them one to one. Whirling a large soft toy overhead and in the face of the speaker while the parent stare into mid space oblivious is not going to go down well.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 May 2024
- Greg W1 contributionThank you for a brilliant morning. Can only thank the volunteers for making this an amazing visit, they couldn't have made us feel more welcome, very engaging and happy to answer any questions. - Tom RowlandsRas Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates1,263 contributionsGreat place to learnGreat place to see some amazing planes in various stages. Some are getting rebuilt and put together, and others are fully working and appear on tv and film. Love that they have loads of finds and parts of downed planes from the local area. The volunteers and workers there are very knowledgeable and I learnt lots of things that I had no idea about.Thank you for taking time to leave a review. teaching and Learning is at the heart of everything we do in the Spitfire Visitor Centre. Unlike most Museums we are blessed with a large team of knowledgeable and hands on Volunteers, many with a Military background or a grounding in Aviation. We have a Primary School Visits programme as well - but encourage both young and old to ask questions and interact with the Volunteers on duty during their visit. Whether it is the Spitfire itself, an interest in aviation archaeology or WW2 history - there is hopefully something for all age groups.Written 14 June 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 16 May 2024

Took my daughter who is really interested in modern history, from WW1 to-date, and she absolutely loved the time we spent here…..she’s quite a shy person, but it’s clear the people that run this are passionate about what they do and she could have spent hours listening to the stories that you wouldn’t normally hear. Who knew you could be captivated by a story about a bent and charred piece of metal!!
I would highly recommend visiting if you have any interest in the forces, RAF, or modern history. The admission price, and prices in general are more than reasonable. Make sure you visit the NAAFI for a cup of tea and a biscuit!
Thanks to everyone who we spoke to, and good luck building Amy Johnson’s last plane!!
If you follow your sat nav by the postcode it will send you the wrong way, so look for the RAF cadet shed which is behind the pub. 👍🏻

I booked a Spitfire Simulator Experience with Raven Cockpits for my husband. We absolutely loved it. It was an amazing experience for my husband and also for myself as a visitor. I was included in the flights as I was given a pair of headphones so that I could listen in during the simulation and it was fascinating. The attention to detail and knowledge was outstanding. Andrew was very informative and what he doesn't know about planes is not worth knowing! We came away with even more respect for the pilots of these amazing machines and would highly recommend to anyone.

This is a great collection of memorabilia, vehicles and fighter planes from WW2. At £6 it's well worth a visit to get so close to such legendary fighter planes. For another £5 you can get to sit in one.
"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." Don't let this ever be forgotten. The work here is invaluable. The tribute to Polish pilots is relevant and so important.
The staff here are so pleasant, enthusiastic and helpful, it was such a pleasure to chat with them. I understand that most are volunteers. A big thank you for what you do.
You are free to take photographs but it's a bit limited for space for a wider shot on occasions and all from floor level. If you're a real photographer, you may have to be patient as the mobile phone users will constantly step in front of you. The lighting is a bit low in places too so you might wish to consider a faster lens (under f4) or risk much higher ISO.
Access is all easy enough for anyone with mobility issues. I wouldn't hesitate to go here again and I would recommend it to anyone interested, it's a great exhibition.

My partner and I had a great time at the Spitfire visitor centre. There’s lots to see in a relatively small area. Most of the displayed information is based on the personal stories of those that flew out of the Blackpool aero drone during the war. The volunteer guides are very engaging and knowledgeable. If you have even a passing interest in WW2, aircraft, the armed forces I would definitely make time for a visit.
We spent 4 hours at the visitor centre and there’s a cafe which puts you in mind of a WW2 NAFFI.
Great place to visit. Highly recommended.

We spent a couple of hours in the afternoon going around the visitor centre. Fabulous exhibits and the volunteers were incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Excellent value for money with so much to see. We then went back in the evening and I took part in the Spitfire Experience. We spent three hours there and Andrew took us round the exhibits explaining what they were and where from. The Spitfire Experience was amazing. The stimulator is a full size Spitfire with all the original controls. Flying it was nerve wracking but exciting and felt so real. Andrew was incredibly patient with a complete novice. My two spectators also were involved getting dressed up in WW2 flying gear. I had over an hour in the cockpit flying round Blackpool and through the Lake District. I would fully recommend this to anyone.

Visited on Saturday 29th August with my big brother. On entry we were met with a a friendly welcome and given clear instructions under the government advice with Covid 19.
Being ex RAF it was great to see all these guys doing a great job in their time.
Heading into the hangar one of the volunteer team showed us how to link in with the audio available for all visitors.
We were met by Eric in the crash investigation part who then continued to show us around the whole hangar giving us a detailed information on all the museum pieces
A thoroughly worthwhile visit. Thanks to the team. And good luck on the Any Johnson Project.

We are interested in aviation and this was on our ‘to do’ list and we weren’t disappointed. Thought we would be there for about an hour and to be honest it was £21 for three Adults and if we had only been there 1 hour it would have been great value for money. However, the volunteers are so knowledgeable, patient and friendly we ended up being there for 3 hours!!!! The exhibits are so realistic (they are actually replicas), the artefacts are well laid out and the volunteers make it so interesting and are happy to chat for as long as you want to chat. Had a lovely cup of coffee and cake in the cafe which is set out in period decor, with lots of information and pictures on the wall. Coffee was in a lovely mug (not a flimsy paper cup)! Would highly recommend this museum but do check the opening hours befor you set off! When the Airspeed Oxford Project starts coming together and is on public display we will certainly be back to take a look. Thank you everyone at the museum for making a great day out.

A fabulous experience for all ages, the staff/volunteers are brilliant at their jobs to explain the various areas of an operational air flied, take time to chat to them as it will add value to your visit. There is memorabilia, flight simulators, re-created scenes and countless items to see.
It is in a hangar, hangar 42, hence can be cool, wrap up warm.

Look on the Lytham St Annes Spitfire Visitor Centre Facebook page, their Avatar is the location Map.
It is located in Area H1, drive down the side of the Lidl store, you will see the big blue Westair Hangar. You park in the large car park, then walk down the back of the Blue Hangar, between it and the 177 ATC building.
