A Great Place!

We really enjoyed looking round, a lovely place and so much to see! The Space Centre is just next door too :-)

From J Boy of Derby A very interesting museum right next door to the space centre. Good hands on displays about life in Victorian Leicester Would be great to visit when the steam engines are operating (only happens on certain days). The highlight has got to be the flushing of Victorian poo, very popular with children and a few adults... More

Great little free attraction, interactive stuff on offer and right next door to the Space Centre, so possible to combine the two. Had a tour, which was on trial, something new, the guy who showed us round (all staff volunteer) was brilliant and for £2.00 each and absolute bargain!!! Good rainy day activity too, loved it!!

We had been at the Space Centre and were on our way back to the car earlier than we'd hoped as we wanted to eat out before driving back to Cambridge. We wanted something else to do and saw this museum so thought we'd pop in. It was a pleasant surprise - we had thought it would be steam engines... More

Found Abbey Pumping Station by accident after leaving the National Space Centre which is next door. The building is a lovely example of historic engineering which first caught my eye then realised it was a visitor attraction and, best of all, free. We went in the afternoon and our 4 and 6 year old enjoyed it. Lots of things for... More

Abbey Pumping Station has great fairs on during the summer months, I particularly like the old car rally when they have the coal fired Fish & Chip van in attendance.

What a great place to take the children. I have taken all my 5 grandchildren many times. So interesting for adults yet plenty for the kids. Who wouldnt be happy to put poo (false) down the toilet and watch it go down the pipes into the sewer !!

Absolutely fascinating slice of industrial history. Interesting to goethite anytime, but best when the beam engine is in steam. The sounds and smells are unique. There are often events, eg, historical toy sales and Christmas events that are worth going to. It is next to the Space Centre so it is good to visit both and compare now and then!

We're glad we decided to pay a visit here while we were in Leicester. The beam engines are magnificent, and even though we weren't fortunate enough to be visiting on an "in steam" day, there's an explanatory video showing them in operation. Many of the other exhibits, such as the lavatories display, would appeal to children and adults alike (I... More
