The Vines (The Big House) Is One Of Many Pubs On Renshaw Street That Has A Good Commercial Beer Range And Is A Very Old Pub And Is The Sister Pub To The Famous Philharmonic Dining Rooms. This Excellent Pub Was Opened In 1867 And Then Totally Rebuilt In 1907 By Walter Thomas A Really Famous Architect. With It Baroque Exterior And Stunning Multi-Roomed Interior Which Has Many Original Fixtures This Truly Is A Gem Of A Pub And Well Worth Visiting. We Went In Here On Our Way Back To Central Train Station And After We Gave Our Track And Trace Details We Ordered A Couple Of Glasses Of Strongebow Brewery Ciders At The Bar And Sat In The Back Room Of The Pub And Enjoyed Our Drinks Which Where Served In Perfect Condition And At A Price On Par With Other Pubs In The City Centre Of Liverpool. The Vines Is An Excellent Pub And A Pub I Would Recommend Going Too As The Interior Is Superb And The Beers In Here Are Always Spot On.Very Easy To Get To From Central Train Station Take A Right Turn Onto Ranelagh Street Then You Take A Left Turn Onto Lime Street A Five Minute Walk.
(This Is My First Review Of The Vines).

Proper pub.

Many many years ago when I was only a teenager The Vines Pub ( The Big House ) was one of the first pubs I visited in town ,a pub that subsequently has a special place in my heart ,a lot of great memories were forged here ,its a pub I always look forward to visiting on any trip into Liverpool city centre I take.
I love the look of this pub,the interior is superb, multi roomed ,beautiful ceilings, nice decor and furnishings including some fine mahogany serving bars, theres tv's and big screens to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub all housed in one of Liverpool's finest public house buildings.
My twin brother Stephen and I were here on a Saturday afternoon, pub was busy with a great atmosphere, we ordered a pint of bitter each ,these were served in excellent condition, we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great pub we were in while sipping our bitter's.
My bitter was really good, a smooth ,well balanced bitter ,consistent from the first sip till the last sup, a really refreshing brew indeed, my twin brother Stephen also gave me a thumbs up to his bitter.
We both really enjoyed our bitter's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time.
The Vines Pub is easy to locate along Lime Street.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Thursday, Midday till Midnight.
Friday to Sunday, 8.30am till 2am.
A great pub ,most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.

Cheap and quite cheerful
Feb 2020 • Family
tayed at The Vines on Weds 19th Feb with my wife and two sons aged 9 and 12. When we arrived we were told of a £50 deposit we had leave in case of any damages, and this had to be cash. Would have been nice to be told this when booking.
The room was as basic as can be, but with a very tired en suite shower room with sink and toilet.
There is a tiny TV and older Sky box in the room. We couldn't get any signal so enquired as to if the TV should be working. We were told the TV does not work, as they have only just been installed and is not up and running yet. In all fairness, the room was not advertised as having TV, so no worries.
Tea and coffee making facilities are included, but instead of a teaspoon we were given a dessert spoon. I know some people like their beverages sweet, but that's excessive!
Outside of each of the two dirty windows is an uplighting spotlight putting out about a squillion candlepower. It's like having a couple of supernova explosions outside, except one of them is on constantly and the other flickers like a broken strobe. Not the best situation to find yourself in when you have a curtain that is nowhere big enough to cover the window – a good 12 inches too narrow in fact. Hopeless!
Currently just after 11pm and the music is still pounding from the bar downstairs. Of course, this is a pub so it is to be expected.
Some woman has had several extremely loud phone conversations right outside our door. When asked if she could keep it down because we have children trying to sleep, she apologised, then continued to bellow into her phone. Not The Vines fault, but is this the type of person this place attracts? I imagine it does ok with stag and hen parties, but I may be wrong.
Checking out wasn’t the easiest of tasks. A sign in the room said 12 am check out and signs in the entrance hall said 11am checkout. Either way, we weren’t bothered because we were ready to leave at 9am. However, there was nobody to be found so we could check out and get my 50 quid deposit back. Eventually at just after 11, after we had given up trying to get into the pub to sort this out, we went back to the room to try to call someone and we came upon two cleaners (who were very nice and helpful). They explained that the pin doesn’t open until 12 in the week and 10 at weekends. Again, would have been nice to have been told sooner... But, they had my deposit and we went on our way more than two hours later than intended. I’m just glad we didn’t have a train to catch.
In summary: OK if you want something cheap, and quality sleep, comfort and entertainment are not high on your list of priorities. Won't be rushing back.

Saturday night out with Friends, band on in the Bar,nice and relaxed in Lounge.
Staff are friendly, strangely the mens toilets have an attendant, nice Guy who plays reggae music but you do feel obliged to tip him when you need to go,which can be expensive if you have a weak bladder!

Dec 2019 • Couples
Nice pub inside bar staff friendly . We were the first group in with another three couples about to join us.
Inside we had a coat stolen within the first couple of minutes . The artist on the stage was a mix of awful karaoke and was trying to be funny but his remarks to some of the customers were rude and insulting beyond being funny. A couple left before us he was insulting another customer with stupid remarks about sexuality and saying one customer was ugly . He was the only one laughing . We found him quite insulting he was ruining the atmosphere in a great pub . We finished our drinks and left and met the larger group in another bar. The male karaoke singer most probably lost the landlord a good few hundred pounds in drinks we would have bought if we had stayed as a large group . Shame a great pub otherwise .

My twin brother Stephen and I were celebrating our 54th birthday on the 5th October with family and friends and we dropped into The Vines Pub ( The Big House ) on a Saturday night ,its a pub I've been visiting off and on for as long as I've been drinking, I remember on my 18th birthday starting a night out in The Vines Pub and here we were 36 years later celebrating another birthday.
I love the look of this pub, multi roomed ,a proper pubby interior, great decor and furnishings including a cool looking island style serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, the pub also offers accommodation, it's just a great pub to chill out in.
Our group ordered various drinks,I opted for the guinness which was poured in the correct manner even allowing time for the all important settle and served iced cold, there was live music and the pub was packed, great atmosphere, what more could you ask for.
We stayed here for about an hour or so ,had a few drinks each before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time.
The Vines Pub is easy to locate along Lime Street.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Thursday, Midday till Midnight.
Friday & Saturday, 8.30am till 2am.
Sunday, 8 30am till Midnight.
A great pub,if your in the area well worth checking out.

Cheap night in Liverpool
Jun 2019 • Friends
The vines building is beautiful, the bar was welcoming and pleasant. The rooms are an after thought. I would describe them as no one has time to do BnB (no breakfast) but for £50 a bed we knew what we where getting into really (apart from the very late/early morning noise from the bar).
2 rooms booked - a 3 bed and a 4 bed. It’s hard to describe...beds ok, bed linen dated and well washed and faded, quilts thin, pillows ok! Room painted 2 shades of grey, curtains big and one wasn’t on rail properly, could open windows, bathroom ok, odd coloured towels. We knew it wouldn’t be the ritz and suited our budget. We wouldn’t return for 1 reason only... the bar was bouncing till 3AM... we knew the singer finished at 12 but they just didn’t want to turn that jukebox off and go to bed. Very little sleep :-(
