The original Liverpool Philharmonic Hall opened on 27 August 1849, and was an acclaimed and integral part of the cultural life of Liverpool before being dramatically destroyed by fire in 1933.The present day art-deco Philharmonic Hall, designed by architect Herbert Rowse and built on the same site, was officially opened on Monday 19 June 1939. Today it presents on average 250 events each year, of which approximately 70 are concerts by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and sells over 250,000 tickets annually. The venue has an illustrious tradition of bringing the top names from rock, jazz, classical, folk and roots, classical and contemporary music to Liverpool. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Buddy Holly all appeared at the Hall during their careers. The Hall also hosts classic and blockbuster films and premieres, shown on the unique Walturdaw rising cinema screen with Merseyside's only resident theatre organist, Dave Nicholas, and houses the delightfully intimate and informal Rodewald Suite, with its own entrance on Sugnall Street, which, with its cabaret seating, in-house bar and rooftop terrace, is home to the popular After 8 series of jazz, roots and unplugged gigs. Liverpool Philharmonic has been working with schools and the community since the 1940s, and the Learning programme now offers a range of exciting and inspirational opportunities to get involved in live music-making of the highest quality for thousands of people every year in the Hall and throughout the region.

I love this place the acoustics are astounding and the proximity to the stage to the artists and there is nothing but air between you adds to the atmosphere. Good well laid out and comfy seats, its great value for money and makes a lovely change from the large stadium tours. Well presented at all junctures, again with friendly staff.

Booked tickets to see the concert ' Russian Superstars ' with the concert pianist Daniil Trifonov and conductor, Vasily Petrenko. We weren't disappointed, the hall was packed and we enjoyed listening to the superb orchestra and pianist. First visit but not the last. A very good afternoon.

I visited the Royal Philharmonic Hall to see/listen to The Glenn Miller orchestra given the era of this music consequently the audience was somewhat elderly to say the least. The number in wheelchairs, on sticks and crutches and using zimmer frames was extensive. I do not have an issue with this in the slightest as I was there with both... More

We went to a New Year's Day 'Last Night of the Proms' performance. Very good orchestra, entertaining and proficient conductor. Good delivery of the standard range of Last Night music. Very good acoustics and reasonably comfortable seats. Ticket prices reasonable in comparison with similar quality elsewhere. A very enjoyable concert. A mostly older, middle class and white audience as was... More

“Sing a long with Santa" at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic has become a yearly family tradition. It is a great show and gets everyone singing. However, few more songs can engage most of the children. The art deco venue is superb and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra is world class.
