Overview
More
59 Rodney Street, the home and studio of photographer Edward Chambré Hardman and his gifted wife Margaret from 1948 to 1988 is a timecapsule of life in mid twentieth century Liverpool. Authentically displayed as it was in the mid 1950s, guided tours of the property include the 'front of house' rooms and processing suites as well as the Hardmans' private living quarters and a small gallery of original Chambré Hardman photographs.

A large house left in a time warp. Here lived a man obsessed with photography and lucky enough to find a wife and staff equally enthusiastic. His passion was landscapes but his bread and butter was portraits. I have mobility issues but the steep stair...More

More of a snapshot of the way people lived at the time and not enough for the man's work. A bit underwhelming.

Chambré Hardman was Liverpool's prominent photographer and the tour of his house gives a good insight in to his life in Rodney Street. There were some of his photographs to be seen, also little personal snippets of information like a pair of tights hanging upstairs in...More

This is what you think when you step inside the house. The Hardmans' lived and worked here for 40 years, didn't change anything and obviously threw nothing away. The rooms are full of nice furniture, and the studio and darkrooms are full of props, toys...More

I had so enjoyed this museum on my first visit to Liverpool ten years earlier that I was keen to go back when I found myself back in the city. Wasn't disappointed!

We live locally but realised we had never visited. Booking had to be in advance as we were taken round in a group of 6. It was easy to find and well signposted, even though the ticket office was round the back and the entrance...More

A wonderful walk back in time tastefully restored and preserved for posterity. Hardman was a humble man but a great photographer. The house celebrates his life and his work.

We prebooked this guided tour and arrived in good time to pick up our ticket from the rear of the building before walking round to the front of the house to start our tour. The guides were brilliant and explained each part of the house...More

The entrance is around the back not the front, only let in to reception when staff at desk, only toured round with pre-booked places. All in all pretty difficult to get into!
