The area
Neighbourhood: Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If I'm honest, I don't know a lot of the history of Bedford SQ, except that I believe it was built in the late 18th century. I have enjoyed visiting the area a few times now and I have been to the 'Cocktails in the City' event two years in a row, held in the gardens. It always seems to be a really lovely area of London to visit and it's very central and close to lot's of things. Go and check it out.

If you are in the area it's worth walking through this square as it's one of the finest in London. Beautiful buildings and lots of blue plaques too which is a bonus! (Well for geeks like me anyway!) It's just off Tottenham Court Road, as though you were on the way to the British Museum.

Built in the mid to late 18th century, Bedford square was originally planned as a sole residential area. It is a perfect example of Georgian architecture in the city, with many beautiful buildings that surround a nice park located in the centre of the square.

As well as the square itself and it's houses, Blue plaques, etc. the garden in the centre of the square was open to visit as part of the Open Squares weekend. It's well worth a visit to see the gardens on this annual weekend.

It is like movie scene for a Poirot detective story.
The square is really nice with all the Georgian building!
A must to see on your way to the British Museum, which is next door!

Bedford Square is a garden square in Bloomsbury that was built in the late 18th century on land owned by the Duke of Bedford, hence the name. The surrounding buildings are all examples of Georgian Architecture and once housed man distinguished British occupants such as Lord Eldon, the longest serving Lord Chancellor. Now the buildings are mostly commercial buildings
As for the gardens itself, it's only accessible to the residents, so if coming to see this place, all you can look at is some nice buildings. I'd recommend going to the nearby Russell Square or Tavistock Square instead for the architecture and you'd get to see the gardens as well.
