The cemetery opened in 1841 and was actually called the City of London and Tower Hamlets Cemetery but was known by my family and all the locals as Bow Cemetery or the Boneyard. It was one of the magnificent seven cemeteries, but was deconsecrated in...More

As I read some good recommendations to visit this cementary I didnt hesitate to go. Getting into it, I was surprised to find a lovely unusual entrance, kind of weird as far as cementaries are concerned but really recommended.

Peaceful, overgrown, loads of plant life growing wild over old gravestones, many of them tumbled down, abundant insect and bird life. A wonderful place to escape to walk, observe, meditate.

The cemetery is always so peaceful and perfect, resembling something out of s film set but right in the heart of busy Bow. Overgrown in places and enchanting. You could be anywhere. Some great photo opportunities always present themselves, especially in winter. A real idyll.
