The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Greenwich
Greenwich Mean Time starts here, so to speak, as the very concept of global time was established at Royal Observatory, just one of several buildings of architectural interest in Greenwich. Indeed, the whole of Greenwich's historic town center, its Royal Park and a number of related buildings (and one world famous ship, the Cutty Sark) make up the UNESCO World Heritage site known as Maritime Greenwich. Today a laser beam is shot out across the night sky from the Observatory to mark the location of the Prime Meridian. Other bold (some say brash) 21st century additions to the area include landmarks such as The O2 entertainment complex (previously known as the Millennium Dome) and the Air Line cable cars, which offer scenic transport across the Thames between North Greenwich and the Royal Docks.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visited this place recently out of sheer curiosity after hearing about it online, and what a real gem of a place it turned out to be. I always thought shops like this only really existed in films - how wrong I was!! The ambience is that of a real bygone era, with pieces of living history literally all around you... you’ll find all kinds of things you perhaps forgot even existed, and the memories will come flooding back to you in an instant. And the real beauty? It’s a family-run working business, so every single visit will be completely different. There’s even a quirky little tearoom in the back should you wish to really immerse yourself in the ambience, and the proprietors are some of the nicest people you could hope to meet. Well, well worth a trip down to Greenwich for - and it’s pretty much bang opposite the station, so very easy to find too!!

My wife brought me here and warned me it was cleverly filled or over stocked take your pick. The owner had just taken a delivery and was busy examining his latest purchase. Young lady was looking for a candlestick after a couple of minutes we discovered 10 and stopped looking only she couldn’t reach them. Worth a look if you are after clean straight lines this is not your place. Downstairs is better laid out then upstairs.

Second hand shop, antiques, whatevers, it has so many different things. I've always found something here that I've loved. Almost a museum with the vast range of things you can find in this shop! Fantastic!

What kept me from visiting The Junk Shop in the past was I was unsure of its location. Well, it is 10 minutes or less walk from Greenwich Market so if you are at the Market if may as well take a stroll to The Junk Shop. Just walk past the hotel and church on the left and you will come to it.
Fair warning, if you are mobility impaired it would be a problem. I believe it is not wheelchair accessible. Inside it is cluttered with narrow isles which is part of its charm. It is not "high end" but there are some really nice things if you poke around. Staff is friendly and helpful. Also, be prepared to haggle at bit. You may not purchase anything but the experience is fun. Next time I go I am going to have tea!

Just stopped by as I walked out of the station and ended up spending a few hours here, looking through tons of the most interesting and curious stuff I’ve seen for ages ! Spent a while taking to the very friendly owner and will definitely be back with more time on my hands. Bought a couple of small pieces and very reasonable prices. Definitely worth a visit and a much welcome experience.

I saw this on TripAdvisor when researching our stay in Greenwich.
What a fabulous family run little business. Run by father and son and generations before them. Quite a character.... proper Londoner.
Go check this shop out. It's wonderful!

This little rabbit warren of antiques and vintage stuff is the PERFECT junk shop for scroungers like me! I spotted the shop while staying in Greenwich, and it called to me....wow, and I wasn't disappointed! You cannot be physically too large to navigate the tiny passageways and steep, narrow stairs, and definitely don't carry a backpack or a big handbag or you'd be knocking things left and right, it's that jam-packed with stuff! Great stuff, too...umbrellas and tea cups and silver items and every sort of antique and vintage item you could imagine! The wiry owner was perched on an upper level, and was the smoky-husky voiced sort of old hippie kind of character who absolutely must own this kind of shop. I was absolutely in awe! There is also a little sweet voice on a pixie who beckons you to the rear to take some tea in her little space or out in a pleasant antique-filled courtyard...wish I'd had time before catching up with impatient hubby. I wanted to take so MANY things home with me, but alas, had no room at all in my suitcase to carry things like a ship in a bottle, or a heavy iron door stop, which would have cost me a fortune in overweight luggage fees. Still, I heartily recommend this shop for anyone who visits Greenwich and enjoys the odd shop with something COMPLETELY different ~ you will find it here and not be sorry you stepped into this magical place!

I am a huge fan of antiques and other odd collectibles, we visited here recently so many bits to see in such a small shop, be careful of the stairs its very cluttered and tight spaces.

We went to the café, there was a lovely friendly lady serving tea and had cakes to chose from, we had a coffee cake, coffee and a tea, everything was served in china which didn't match and a cute tea pot, I loved the fact everything didn't match it was lovely, I also loved being surrounded by the antiques, it felt like I was sitting in my nans old house, they have an outdoor seating area, I would love to visit again in summer and sit outside!

If you love antiques, collectibles and unusual stuff, you must poke around this shop. The shop is small but jam-packed with interesting stuff from floor to ceiling, and there are different levels to explore. The proprietor is friendly and welcoming. FYI: this is not a handicapped accessible shop and it's not a place to bring little kids. If you have difficulty navigating tight aisles and narrow steps this is probably not the place for you.
