This memorial has inspired various shades of comment over the years, not just for the blood curdling lower text ‘Saul hath slain his thousands but David his tens of thousands’ but also Stephen Fry’s assertion that ‘the young man memorialising the Machine Gun Corps in Wellington Place. His matchlessly perfect buttocks present themselves to anyone travelling south along Park Lane towards Hyde Park Corner. One never minds a red light there.’

It’s a nice memorial and appreciative of the hero’s of the Machine Gun Corps. Just seems slightly smaller than many of the other memorials in the immediate area if you know what I mean.

The Machine Gun Corps Memorial located at the north side of the open space at the centre of Hyde Park Corner gyratory is a memorial to the casualties of the Machine Gun Corps in World War One. It was originally located next to Grosvenor Place just south of Hyde Park Corner where it was unveiled by Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, in 1925. Designed by Derwent Wood it proved controversial some viewing the depiction of the solitary gunner as though glorifying war. The statue went through its own wars being dismantled due to road widening in 1945 and not rededicated in its present location until 1963. It received grade II listed status in 1970.

This memorial is located in Hyde Park Corner near Constitution Hill.
The machine gun fundamentally changed modern warfare when it was introduced during World War One. This monument commemorates those who served in the Machine Gun Corps in World War One.

Bit of an odd statue for the memorialising of Machine Gun Corps. The statue is of a naked man with a leaf covering his organ and holding a sword 7/8 his height. Either side of him, on lower plinths, are two machine guns with two wreaths around them.
An inscription on the middle plinth reads, "erected to commemorate the glorious heroes of the Machine Gun Corps who fell in the great war" and "Saul hath slain his thousands but David his tens of thousands".
Underneath the left-hand plinth is the Roman numeral 'MCMXIV' (1914) and on the right-hand plinth is the Roman numeral 'MCMXIX' (1919).

A fine monument in remembrance to these brave guys, who tirelessly fired the Vickers machine gun in the hope to protect their comrades in the trenches. Very fitting memorial.

The Machine Gun Corps Memorial is a memorial that stands in tribute to the casualties of the British casualties of the Machine Gun Corps in the First World War. It's located on the same roundabout as the Royal Artillery Memorial, Australian War memorial, the New Zealand War Memorial and the monuments to Wellington.
The memorial consists of a bronze statue of the biblical David. David stands with one hand on his hip and the other resting on Goliath's oversized sword. On either side of David, on lower flaking plinths are two bronze sculptures of Vickers machine guns wrapped in laurels, the symbol of victory and honour. The rear of the memorial tells us that sadly of the 159,000 soldiers who served in the corps, nearly half became casualties.
A sad, but worthy memorial.

One of the group of memorials in the open space in the centre of the Hyde Park one way system. The bronze statue is a version of the classical image of David, with a huge sword. On next level of the plinth are two bronze machine guns heavily wreathed. The key inscription is in small lettering under much larger general wording and reads: “Saul hath slain his thousands but David his tens of thousands”. It commemorates almost 14,000 members of the MGC, who perished in WW1. It was unveiled in 1925.
