Tours and Tickets

The area
Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

Great little market

We came across this on Sunday. Great little market, some really nice things for sale with food options and out side bar with screen. Definitely worth a visit

A breath of fresh air
May 2021 • Solo
Bermondsey packs a punch. As if the White Cube and its satellites not to mention the Textiles Museum and some of the best tapas, French and Italian cooking in London not to mention outrageously named coffee shops in Bermondsey Street were not enough, there are also the attractions of St. Thomas’s Street including the vibrant flea market situated in the wonderfully named Vinegar Yard. An entrance today marked by the odd canvas painting and letters in bricks, pointed the way to a series of stalks each selling very individual wares ranging from jewellery, antique bottles, miscellaneous bric-a-brac to colourful prints of London landmarks. Barriered off and accessed via a separate entrance an eating area which had even at 4pm attracted long queues.

An afternoon well spent at the Flea
Jun 2020
After 2 weeks in quarantine, I was glad to finally get out and was grateful the Flea at VY was open to the public. It is not quite full with vendors yet, but there are enough that I pulled my wallet out a half dozen times.

I love unique jewelry and they have two vendors that offer elegant, trendy, or boho styles. The kimono vendor has a glorious collection of silk/wool pieces that caught my eye. There is a vendor with quite an extensive collection of vintage beer, gin, ink, medicine, and more bottles. I picked up three to take back to the US as bud vases. My vintage gin battle from Amsterdam is going to be a great conversation piece. There is a vendor with alpaca wool items and a gentleman who has the most stunning and colorful collection of men's, women's, and children's shirts. I was a fan of the lobster patterns, bird patterns, and vintage minivan patterns. There seems to be something for most tastes here.

Something different
Oct 2019
Really enjoyed this little vintage style treasure which we found after a visit to the top of the Shard.
Initially we were going to eat at one of the restaurants at the Shard, however the service was so poor we walked out. And discovered Flea at Vinegar Yard. There is a great varied selection of freshly prepared hot food, a bar and plenty of picnic bench style seating.
The atmosphere was fun and very chilled

Best at London Bridge
Jul 2019
There are lots to do in the London Bridge and Bermondsey area at the weekend and was told this is a new addition from the people that opened Flat Iron Square.
It is a Flea, Makers and Vintage Market with a really good mix of traders. (I bought a great vintage Levi's jacket.) Also has bars and street food outlets too with plenty of outdoor sitting. Prices were on a par with the rest of the area. Looked like a good mix of families, tourists and friends meeting up so a great place to come browse, shop and socialise.
You can't miss the place, just look for the giant red metal Ants on a railway carriage.
