Open 7 days a week, it is the perfect antidote to the high street. We bring together small producers with local creatives and artisans, original independent retailers and a few well-known brands under one historic roof. Our daily market is home to a selection of carefully chosen traders, craftsmen, artists and artisans alike, picked for the quality of their product, and the stories they have to tell. We are interested in how things are designed, the creative process and the interesting people who produce the products you’ll find here. We champion quality and responsibly sourced products and we assess each operator individually on this basis. In the centre of the market floor you will find our ten fully fitted kitchens where we showcase exceptional contemporary and authentic cooking. We are proud to offer new levels of quality and variety in the dishes prepared by our chefs and operators, many of whom have already established great

Address
Neighbourhood: Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.
Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.

Many of the goods are hand-made, and prices are not cheap. We had gone to find some lunch and while there were many options, we ended up at Poppies a block away. We did walk away with a unique clothing item, so it was well worth the visit.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 October 2023

It was all decorated for Christmas and they had so many vendors selling all kinds of quirky clothing, accessories and other cool stuff. We bought some hats and even found a self-watering plant system! There were many food trucks with delicious smells and foods. Easy way to spend a weekend afternoon. Note: only open and bustling on the weekends despite what google says. And only open until 5 pm. So plan accordingly. We went another time after 5 pm and nothing was open.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 14 December 2023

Has changed a bit and developed a lot. Needless to say, the building in the middle of the market's surrounding buildings didn't exist then. There are so many street food vendors and of the 2 I tried the food is amazing. All the other stalls are standard overpriced tourist fareVisited July 2023Travelled soloWritten 16 January 2024
- Paul C4 contributionsCrazy choice of fantastic foodsMeet friends about three times a year to have a day in Spitalfields. The variation of different foods is ridiculous, way too many to choose. Always eat more than expected because as you walk past the smells are great. Noticed most of the food had leapt up since last year and we ended up spending a fortune by the end of the day. Wouldn’t change a thing though.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 9 February 2024
- MissMPBrighton, United Kingdom143 contributionsVery affordable and lots of optionsvisit for a quick food and was surprised by how affordable everything was to be in the city of London! Market is quite big and the variety of food and also other stands/kraft market was so nice! We had a few things from different stalls and loved it all but the filled donuts from Donovan’s market house were the best ever!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 February 2024
- Owen B23 contributionsQuick lunch visitSuch a vast choice of options for food - and pretty much all incredibly good value for money. Was a quick stop for a quick lunch but could have stayed hours with all of the market stalls and wide array of cuisines. I think it’s a triumph and we visit every few months and are always impressed at how it continues to evolve and surprise. The range of products has gone and down with flows for centuries. it's still a central spot for fruits and vegetables. The Market has many spots to purchase a variety of fresh products. The Market is loved by Londoners and overseas visitors, especially on weekends. We thought Old Spitalfields Market kept us looking at things to buy for hours. I lived near Spitalfields Market from 2005-06. Back then shoppers could find bargains and patronize stands hosted by real artisans. Unfortunately, Spitalfields Market has gentrified as did the rest of Shoreditch. Visit if you're in the area and need a quick, expensive bite. Don't visit Spitalfields Market shopping for bargains. You won't find any. I recommend visiting the nearby Brick Lane Market on Sundays instead.

We had a look at the hand made crafts and clothes exhibited at the market; some of them were really beautiful and cozy, but the prices i think are a bit high.
I liked the silver but wasn’t sure of its quality so i preferred not to risk.
The surroundings were a good plenty of shops & cafes.
Well, it was a nice visit, yet i still regret the time wasted coz i had the choice to visit another market.

Now is a great time to go to Spitalfields because the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant sculptures (20 babies and one matriarch) are there. Other sculptures are there as well, but the eles are the best and definitely make Spitalfields worth a visit. There are also food trucks and other restos, and plenty of booths set up for holiday shopping.

I was pleasantly surprised how well kept, how big and the variety of stalls this market had to offer. It’s a short walk from Liverpool Street Station. Inside there’s multiple food stalls, ranging from Italian, Indian, Chinese and Mexican. As well as stalls selling a variety of clothing, jewellery and souvenirs. They also have toilets and an array of restaurant available. The prices are standard for London and what you’d expect to pay in a popular market in a Capital city.
Sitting inside the market itself was hard to come by, especially with how busy it was. So I’d suggest, if you’re planning on eating to walk outside the market and use some of the surrounding benches/tables instead as it’s quieter and you’re almost guaranteed a seat.
Overall, would recommend visiting if you’re a big foodie like me, I definitely rate in my top three markets in London along with Borough Market and Camden Market.

Five of us visited were there four a couple of hours on a wet Saturday. We met up for coffee and brunch before all going off to find things to buy - jewellery, prints, cards etc among the stalls. We finished up with a drink in the garden tavern before heading off for lunch at the nearby Sofiga Bologna

Loved the many unique clothes and crafts available here. Enjoyed Mr Bombay’s vegan boxes of dhal, basmati rice and onion bhajis (comes with a samosa and bhaji but I requested 2 bhajis instead) for only £9. Loads of other fish and meat options too. Tables nearby to rest on or benches if seating needed. Adjacent are good Chinese and pasta food vans inside the market so no worries if it’s raining. Lots of other nice places to eat and drink too. Close to Liverpool St station, Petticoat lane Market and the Truman brewery currently showing an amazing Dali exhibition with virtual reality and 3D experiences. Love this place whatever the weather!

I agree with those who enjoyed their visit here. There were dozens of shops and restaurants to explore with my friends and we recommend it highly. I'd been here a couple of times before and keep coming back to see what has changed. It is easy to spend several hours here looking at all the various stalls and trying to decide what to eat.

We came here on the morning of our last day in London and it was according to the internet supposed to be open from early morning. We arrived on the tube just after 10am and there were basically just a couple of stalls only just setting up. It is a very big place so I dont know did we just pick wrong day or time but according to the internet it was supposed to be up and running and be busy by 10am on a Monday but sadly not so it was a waste of time going there. Shame

Spitalfields and Shoreditch is a very nice areas of London. The indoor market, although has a long history of being a fruit and vegetable market, is now full of restaurants and funky shops. The area around the market is worth exploring with graffiti art and old alleyways and pubs worth exploring. We went to the market on a weekday, but the time to go is on Sunday when the market is in full swing.

Well worth an explore, an interesting mix of artisan stalls, exclusive shops and boutiques, a good range of tempting street food outlets and restaurants. We visited on a Saturday morning and found it bustling but definitely not overcrowded. Something to interest most people.

Can you walk to this market from the Tower of London?

Yes, you can. We did, took about 25 minutes. The 2nd time we went, we took the Tube and got off at the Aldgate East stop.

It is dog-friendly if your dog is ok with narrow spaces and crowds. My dog is little & territorial so it’s not for him.

HI there.
My husband and I are looking to travel to London on Easter Sunday and wanted to head to Old Spitlefields Market - does anyone know if it would be open and worth the journey? We will be over in the West End so don't want to travel over for no reason.
Thanks!

Hola, buenos días. ¿Alguien sabe si los restaurantes cierran pronto o tienen abierto por la noche? Tenemos contratado un Tour que termina a las 10 de la noche aquí y es por saber si podríamos cenar a esa hora. Gracias.

Hello from Greece! Me and my daughter will be in London in December. We"ve been in Camden market three years ago and we really loved it! We will definitely go to Portobello market on Saturday morning.Do u recommended us to go to Spitalfields this time or Camden again for Sunday morning? Can we probably go to both on the same day? There were so many things we want to do and see in three days! Thank you!

Hi again, about 2 hours should be enough for Spitalfields and Brick lane area unless yous top for brunch in Brick lane because you can't resist :-)

Is there one day that is better for vintage doodads? (lace, postcards, buttons, just "old" things that are neat) We will be in London on a Thursday, Fri, and Saturday at the end of May.
Written 13 May 2017
Tony/Amir - this is the definitive answer (albeit a bit late, sorry only just happened across this) as I have had a stall in the market for 17 years and currently attend both Thursdays and Sundays. Thursday is the antiques market day, run by an outside operator who also run the antique markets at Bermondsey (Fridays) and Covent Garden (Mondays). It is a great market and perfect for anyone looking for antiques/collectibles/vintage as this is all there is on Thursdays at Old Spitalfields Market. The rest of the week is mixed, different every day, but the biggest day (ie most number of stallholders) is Sunday. This is a great day to visit as you can also visit Petticoat Lane market (2 mins away), Upmarket (2 mins) Back Yard Market (5 mins) Brick Lane Market (5 mins) and Columbia Road Market (15 mins). There are a variety of stalls on Sunday, eg clothing (designed by stallholders and some vintage), homewares, crafts, jewellery, books, 2nd-hand, cards, t-shirts, etc. Please visit!
