IWM London tells the stories of people's experiences of modern war from the First World War to conflicts today. Mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme over 2016 and experience our ground-breaking First World War Galleries. Our IWM Contemporary art programme continues with work by protest photographer Edward Barber from 26 May - 4 September 2016 and works by artist Mahwish Chishty later in 2016. From 28 July 2016 artist-photographer Edmund Clark presents an exhibition exploring hidden experiences of state control, touching on issues of security, legality and ethics during the 'Global War on Terror'. Discover astonishing acts of bravery in The Lord Ashcroft Gallery: Extraordinary Heroes exhibition, delve into the world of espionage in Secret War and explore key moments of the Second World War in the award-winning Holocaust Exhibition. Find out how Britain's armed forces deal with very different aspects of global security in Fighting Extremes: From Ebola to ISIS, until 13 November 2016.

Museum is not very large so could be done in a half day visit. What is shown is very well presented and tells a fascinating story. Holocaust exhibition and the secret service gallery were particularly interesting

Huge museum, and it's free! We were there 3 and 1/2 hours and managed to see everything. Holocaust exhibition particularly good. Great mix of exhibits. We really enjoyed our visit.

First time visit with my young son and it was amazing. So much to see and do and all free. The opening hall with planes and rockets is really impactful. Lots of interesting ww1 and ww2 artefacts and learnt loads. Loved the trench recreation and many interactive items. Had a nice drink and cake in the cafe after. Looking forward... More

My son is an avid historian and war enthusiast. IWM was on the to do list and on arrival admission is free with a £5 donation. The exhibition covered WW1 and WW2 well with an array of machinery, lifestyle exhibits and information. The cold war section was more limited however and there was not any information covering the full imperial... More

A bit out of the way of other museums but worth a visit. The holocaust floor is sombre and humbling but a must visit. Some good exhibits on other floors as well

So over here with my family with a 15 year old boy - They spent 2 hours in the first floor on WWI only - the amount of content was incredible. ..I toured all of it and was totally impressed. AND ITS FREE.

Visited recently and was pleased to find out that it was free entry. Exhibits a bit limited, but understandable given the size of the building & the amount of history covered. Not a huge amount of information on exhibit descriptions. Don't use the cafe. It's very expensive. A beef burger costs £8.70 and if you want chips as well it's... More
