We dropped by Trafalgar Square to specifically see the traditional Christmas tree that Norway provides every Christmas time. We were not disappointed. The tree as tall as ever was decorated differently this year ( see photo ). While admiring the tree you could listen to the carol singers doing their stuff by the tree. Wonderful.

This is London at its best and is a square that commemorates with the Nelson Column the Battle of Trafalga and the defeat of Napoleon. It is also a meeting place with a great deal of history and a must see in London.

We were staying by Trafalgar Square and it was always busy with plenty of entertainment from buskers and others - it is also central to a lot of other attractions in London so is a good place to set out from.

Explore the surrounding area from this focal point...the gallery provides a fabulous back drop, but thats not all! Watch the world go by whilst you soak up the atmosphere.

Surrounded by many destinations, the square is a significant landmark for many activities and gatherings. There are also many entertainers, jugglers, acrobats, fire dances, feral pigeons and or lovers. When I was there, there was an event attended by the Scottish soccers, hundreds of them. The National Gallery is on the north side, the church of Saint Martin of Fields... More

What's not to love about Trafalgar square? It's busy, frantic at times, you feel safe (but don't be blase about security in any city capital), plenty to see & do. People-watching at it's best in central London.

Always reminds me of the Dr. Who episode as it is in front of the National Portrait Gallery. Great place to be when the weather cooperates, but chilly when its gray and rainy

You must stop here & have a bite to eat, even if you have only brought your own food. Such an amazing place to visit, there is usually something going on. & of course it has the London christmas tree, why would you not want to visit, not only at christmas time but at any time of the year.

A vibrant square in the middle of London surrounded by history. As it was Christmas great illuminated tree. However the could light the column better.

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighbourhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
