We saw Twelfth Night yesterday and had a brilliant evening. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and the quality of the cast was excellent. I particularly like the National as a venue as all the seating has a really good view of the stage and plenty of legroom. A lot of the older theatres struggle with both space and visibility. It... I recently saw Peter Pan here in the Olivier Theatre. The show was excellent, with interesting effects and a modern spin on the storyline. The venue itself was faultless. I think you would have great seats from everywhere inside the theatre. There is a lovely view of the London skyline, and the place has a fun atmosphere about it.

I always have a great time at the National. The shows are of a high quality. Ruth Wilson's performance in Hedda Gabler was hypnotic and so intense. Any where you sit, you have a great view. The bars are convenient (apart from not selling Pinot Grigio) and the staff are always friendly and helpful. I always try to eat in... More

I hadn't been to the National Theatre before seeing Hedda Gabler a couple weeks ago. I knew it had multiple theatres inside the one building but I didn't expect such a lovely venue. I came in through the cafe and found the ticket desk easily. Lots of places to sit and clean washrooms. Doors to the theatre were only opened... More

Located along the south bank overlooking the Thames. This little gem of a restaurant is everything you'd expect from an unspoilt eatery tucked away along under the national theatre. Serving sandwiches to light snacks and delicious cakes and pastries. Reasonably priced with a lovely atmosphere. If you're looking for somewhere to eat and be apart of the 'London Theatre Scene'... I really like this theatre. I love the views on the river and the atmosphere. It is equally nice to see a matinee or come in the evening. The three theatres are different in size and layout. But they are all great and the productions are wonderful. It is a superb venue to socialise, wander around, have a meal or... More

Always impressed at the bar staff - last visit was to the Lyttelton to see Hedda Gabler - really efficient interval service and not rip off prices.

We had bought online tickets for a muscal and decided to collect them during the next day. We were very surprised about the place, where you can just walk in and out as you please. There is a nice bookshop, a tearoom and several other bars at the different levels where the shows take place. You can even just sit... More

National Theatre never fails to disappoint with its exceptionally high standard of productions and amazing staging. The Olivier with its rotating stage is my favourite and lends itself to all levels of creativity. There are various options for eating pre and post theatre both on site and also along South Bank

We visited the National Theatre to see Hedda Gabbler, amazing venue and really interesting building. However, whilst watching the show it was far too hot, to the point that it would deter me from visiting again, as it slightly spoils the overall experience. The show itself, excluding the heat, was amazing and all actors were great!!

Thank Karen G

Staying in Southbank

Neighbourhood Profile
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
