Southbank Centre is a world-famous arts centre on the South Bank of the Thames. Our origins are in the 1951 Festival of Britain when our largest venue The Royal festival Hall was built. Southbank Centre has now grown to occupy a 21-acre site in the midst of London's vibrant cultural quarter and as well as Royal Festival Hall our venues include Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room for performance based arts and Hayward Gallery which is widely regarded as one of the world's greatest art galleries. Southbank Centre is also home to The Poetry Library in Royal Festival Hall, a popular Roof Garden created by The Eden Project, Jubilee Gardens which is the area in front of the London Eye and a wide range of restaurants, cafes, bars, markets and shops can also be found on our site. Southbank Centre draws on its Festival of Britain heritage to present Festivals For The World. Throughout the year a vibrant programme of themed arts activities takes place both inside and outside our buildings. We offer a very wide range of cultural events from the greatest classical music to performances by contemporary music acts. From dance to performance and spoken word events. 50% of our programme is free so not only do we offer events for all tastes, we offer activities for all pockets too. Whatever you choose to do at Southbank Centre today, we look forward to welcoming you.

Southbank Centre is at the ferry pier and meets the arcade from the London Eye, facing Big Ben. The commercial complex includes lots of fast food/ eateries at ground level. Great for kids of all ages--a giant outdoor sandbox (cleaner than Gabriel's Wharf) and skateboard...More

We passed by the Southbank Centre on a Saturday evening when everything was in full swing. Great live music and dancing, children dancing though the fountain trying hard not to get wet but not succeeding. Very busy but a great buzz about the place.

Its' centrepiece is the Royal Festival Hall, originally built for the 1951 Festival of Britain, but thoroughly refurbished to original specifications about ten years ago. Paid £30 for two adults and our slot got moved from 4 to 4.15pm, the group was far too large for such small spaces, there was about 12 of us in total. You couldn't really look at the displays without stepping on someone else's feet....More

Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a
thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National
Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the
reasons that Southbank is such a collectively
cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly
activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized
river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo
Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and
