Yes, you can have your usual touristy tours of the west side of London -- Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, etc. They are fun too. But if you want to see a grittier, hipper side of London, this is the tour to go on. We walked through the streets of Shoreditch, an industrial-ish feeling area of London on the... More

This is a fantastic thing to do. Did the tour about 2 years ago and had a Canadian over to stay recently. We took him on the tour and found it slightly different but equally as good. You learn such a lot about the area and get to see some amazing street art into the bargain. Take the tour, you... More

The tour was great and my whole group really enjoyed it despite the rainy weather. Doug was superb and enthusiastic which really made the tour that much better

Excellent walking tour with Doug. We discovered another side to London through street art and the East end. The classic tour is a great way to find out about street art when you have little knowledge on the subject. We will certainly be back to find out more. Thank you Doug for an excellent morning!

This is my second time doing a tour with Alternative London, doing the ordinary walking tour, and I absolutely loved it. The first tour I did was with Ben, but this one was with Doug, and it is just incredible how two different people can both do the tour so brilliantly, but also so differently, and both tour guides give... I brought my whole slightly reluctant family to the tour; I had taken it two years ago, as a birthday present from my brother, and loved it so much I thought that I would return the favour. My family is large (we are Italian), and with a very wide age range, from the lively and curious 90 years of my... More

great experience; you get to see London from another point of view. you get to see some street art and graffiti to learn about the artists. and to hear the criticism of the artists between the lines. it helps you understand culture better.

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighbourhood Profile
Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
