We're so glad we decided to check this out! Our tour guide was a wonderful Australian street artist (so sorry, forgot your name) who was passionate about the art we were viewing and the social context in which it's created. London is an expensive city, so it's shocking to me that a tour of this caliber is free! I think... More

This "pay what you feel like tour" was a great intro to the east end art and history. Doug was knowledgeable and hit the highlights. He identified 3 of the area's well known artists, and pointed out historical items of note. I wish my schedule had allowed me to take one of their more 'formal' tours to gain more in-depth... More

We had a fantastic 2 hour tour guided by Josh Jeavons who made us see things who wouldn't notice otherwise. The climax was the Nonadic Community Gardens, a gem we weren't aware of, urban beauty hidden in London's poorest neighbourhood until the real estate sharks will take over (hence "Nonadic"). The tour is intelligent and fascinating both artistically and sociologically.... More

We did the east end tour today and our tour guide Doug was very nice and friendly and of course most importantly knowledgeable. He told us a nice mix of info on history of London and the area, big names in street art, anecdotes and such. He also told us about the connections to gentrification (we got a hipster warning!)... When we all gathered at the meeting place I didn't have any Idea of how everything was to happen. Gary was kind to tell us all we were going to do. We took a tour and after every five minutes he would stop and explain about the area and the street we were walking along. Being a tour guide in... More

I've been on the Alternative London walking tour three times now and each time I learn or see something different. The tours are brilliant and it really feels like the guide tailors the content to how the group reacts to things and what they want to see. The tour lasts around 2 hours - if you go in the winter... We took a private tour for 11 with Ben, a local artist. Very interactive and informative. A good mix of history of the area, how it has changed and contemporary culture, plus an opportunity for discussion. Ben was articulate, knowledgeable and fun to spend a couple of hours with. The tour changes all the time so I will probably take... More

This tour is great to see street art and the origins of East London. Me and my boyfriend live close and have visited this places many times, but this is the first time we actually stopped to admire the place from a different perspective. The guide is excellent; he has an in-depth knowledge of what he is talking about, and... More

I have always loved good graffiti and there are still places in London where it thrives but not as much as it used to.This tour is excellent. Our guide Josh was excellent, his knowledge is amazing and has great enthusiasm for graffiti. You learn a lot and see some great street art. The workshop is also really good. Took my... More

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighbourhood Profile
Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
