About
There can be no other theatre in the world which has two such distinct and diverse claims to fame as the Aldwych.During the period from 1925 until 1933 the theatre housed a series of farces by Ben Travers which have gone down in history as 'The Aldwych Farces'. They included such familiar titles as A Cuckoo in the Nest, Rookery Nook, Thark, Plunder and A Cup of Kindness. Nearly 30 years later, on 15 December 1960, the Royal Shakespeare Company took over the Aldwych as its London base.During the next 21 years, prior to the company moving to its theatre in the Barbican, history was frequently made. The Aldwych is currently the residence for the Olivier & Tony award winning Beautiful - The Carole King Musical

Disgusted.. so train fares and hotel paid for 200 quid plus.. to then, find the theatre so we could get our bearings and gravitate near the theatre until we were due to go in. To be told it was cancelled with a stupid little notice on the door. 5 minutes later I received a text telling me the same. Fuming

Wel what a lovely evening, NOT!
It was our 40th wedding anniversary so my wife secretly arranged a London Hotel and a show I'd be wanting ti see for ages, 'Tina the musical ' at the Aldwych theatre.
Finally we git to the theatre 35 mins before curtain up to be told by staff the show had been cancelled but they didn't know why.
I asked to speak to a senior member if staff who told me the show was pulled at 5 30 due to staff 'indispisition'.
We had no notice, no warning whatsoever.
In this day and age di we not have understudies/ stand ins.
The producers and management should move to the suburb and run some backwoods cultural hall production.
I suggest they take a long, hard look at themselves.
Do not go, do not frequent the 'old witch!

Late cancellation seems to be a theme on the reviews here - got an email at 2pm to say everything fine then text at 5pm to say show cancelled. Didn’t see text as travelling so turned up at 7pm to theatre to find show cancelled due to staff indisposition. Be interested to see if it’s running today.
After paying for accommodation for one night, train tickets etc along with many others, it’s very bizarre for a top show to do this.

We were in seats B17 - B20 Dress Circle last night watching Tina and the show was amazing. We bought the tickets for my Sister's birthday, she was visiting from Australia with her partner. Perfect seats to see everything, we pre ordered the drinks as well so no queues. The ladies loos are spotless and easily accessible and noticed a special one for those with disabilities (walker) was available.

I am totally unimpressed with the management of this theatre and I particularly wouldn't recommend anyone take seats in the Grand Circle. Be aware, these are not the seats you see in all their publicity shots.
I was treated to a performance of Tina! for my birthday, a show I had waited years to see. After collecting a drink in the interval, I returned and turned to pull down my seat. As I did so, someone wanted to get by me, and due to the top of the next row down seating being behind me at calf level, with very limited legroom and an extremely steep pitch to the seating, I ended up overbalancing backwards and had a massive fall, crashing onto the seats yet another level below and ended wedged between some lower rows.
I had to be taken University College Hospital and was subsequently transferred to the Royal London Hospital trauma department with eight fractured ribs (two broken in more than one place) and several completely detached. I also had massive bruising to my body, plus a deep 9" long gash requiring sutures in my leg and other cuts. I was extremely lucky not to hit my head or break my back. I was in hospital for 2 weeks before I could barely walk and face a painful and debilitating recovery period of several months.
One of the staff at the time mentioned that this was not the first time this has happened, but management have subsequently denied it.
Whilst the duty manager (?) at the time was very helpful, I have not heard a thing from the theatre at all since the accident. When they were contacted, they basically said they remember the incident (not surprising as the show had to be stopped for quite some time while the paramedics and ambulance crew did their work) but had no real comment, not even asking after my welfare. I now additionally keep getting flashbacks about the incident, was diagnosed with PTSD and am fear I will never be able to face going to a theatre again.
How this theatre can get through the supposedly necessary risk assessments for this type of seating amazes me, and I would avoid at all costs.

What a production!
The actual show itself here was a one in a million.
Pretty much all staff were very friendly here which was great to see.
Drinks and food selection was good and seats were comfy,
We will be coming back.

To celebrate a birthday occasion, we went to see Tina, which was fantastic! Staff were friendly at the entrance and we made a smooth transition into the bar and our seats. Seats were very comfortable and a great view of the stage. A joy!

We recently went to see Tina Turner for my sisters 60th we did arrive 3 minutes late and apparently missed where they said you cant clap or sing. After the first song finished we clapped, all of a sudden 4 security guards appeared and stood to the side of us and at the glass window as we were the last row very intimating . At half time we was told we had to leave the theatre as we were two noisy and escorted out, the Manager was rude and walked away without given us an explanation. Never in my 55 years have I been thrown out of anywhere, we spent over £600 for these tickets and the night was planned for months. My niece had a panic attack after as she suffers from her nerves, now to see if we get refunded. STAY AWAY FROM THIS THEATRE

I purchased tickets for Saturday 9th April, 2.30 performance, to celebrate my Husbands birthday. We arrived in plenty of time and decided to have a coffee at the bar next door to the theatre (very good bar by the way. Excellent service!!) with 1 hour to go before the doors were due to open I received a text from The Aldwych Theatre to inform me that. THE 2.30 PERFORMANCE WAS CANCELLED!!!
We, among many others with tickets for that performance, could not believe it, how could they leave it so late before letting everyone know? I would imagine most people had train journeys to get to London but they was no mention of refunding train, bus or taxi tickets.
We were told that the doors would be opened at 2pm and there would be someone there to deal with our problems. Unfortunately, although he was polite he said he could not do anything. On pressing him further he did, reluctantly, give me an address to write to. Which I extend to do.
This was a most disappointing end to a outing we had looked forward to and I think we should have been contacted much earlier so to avoid the wasted journey to London and back.
Jackie Sandiford.

We went to see Tina the musical which was great, however the staff really went above and beyond to help us to enjoy our visit so thank you. More accessible toilets would be good though in the theatre.
