Our tour guide stopped on route to a major tourist site to show us this Victorian market and the nearby unusual architecture. It was just the beginning of lunchtime and was quickly getting crowded as there are many places to eat. It was a beautiful old-style place hidden amongst the modern buildings.

As this place is right near my work I just used to see it as a place to go to for lunch or as a cut through from the station to work. It was only a few days ago where I was sitting within the market and having a coffee that I realised how truly stunning it is. The architecture... More

The Leadenhall Market building is a great sight among the increasing number of modern buildings in London. So take a minute to take it all in from across the road. I've only been here in the evenings and it is soooo busy! There's a few pubs so there's a mass of people spilling over to the rest of the market.... More

Stunning architecture in an enclosed glass environment - very old London with lots of alleys, nooks, and crannies to explore. Fans of Harry Potter would love this unique site, and there are lots of great restaurants, popular pubs, and shopping.

It dates back to 1321 when the area was used as a meeting place and market. The builing is old and different and set amid modern offices and towers but it has retained its quaint character, Inside there are some pubs and restaurants and various shops . Visit around the end of the day and the office workers cram the... More

This is an incredibly beautiful marketplace. Now it is mostly populated by pubs and restaurants. There is even a pub, Old Tom's, that is dedicated to the gander that escaped death numerous times - he's a legend.

I love the fact that Leadenhall market feels like taking a step back in time and it also makes me forget that I am in the city! Well worth a visit, there are some very interesting little shops, they are quite expensive though all the same I enjoy window shopping here.

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
