Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

    Good for all the family!
Visited the Clink this morning with our two children (5 & 7) who thoroughly enjoyed the interactive museum, creepy setting and rat hunt! It’s situated in an ideal location for a walk along the Thames and through Borough Market with plenty of food options available. The museum is filled with lots of interesting and gruesome facts, the children particularly enjoyed being able to pick up and handle the torture equipment and completing the activity sheet. We came away with a free family photo too!

Surprisingly cheap day out in London!
£8 for a museum in London is VERY cheap, then £2 for a programme, so £10 all in all. Was VERY interesting!! Even my friend who was born in London had never heard of it so the 3 of us who went had a brilliant few hours. The bloke who runs it was ace, a friendly Londoner which is a first LOL Had an absolutely brilliant day out last October, would definitely visit again!

    Informative, friendly and great price.
We prebooked before arriving in London, however due to trains and trees on the line, by the time we arrived it was too late, we rang the museum to see if we could move the tickets on a day and they couldn’t have been more helpful. The museum was easy to find and once you walk through the gate the mood of the place hits you. Lots of interesting artefacts, and tales on the boards. Take your time to read and look (and try out some torture devices) great place, fantastic value and everyone enjoyed it.

    Good experience
Cost £24 for one adult one child and one senior. We were there about 40 mins so it doesn’t last long. There is lots to read as you walk round and different exhibits. You get a free program as you go in and kids have to see how many rats they can spot. When it ends they get a lollipop. You can also have a free photo taken behind bars as you leave which you can then download. If you have the money and are looking for something to do not a bad experience. The prison guard as you go in interacts well with the children.

    Amazing Place, Tonnes of Information
A fantastic museum, well laid out with tonnes of information. The blue plaque on the remaining prison wall is a really nice touch. There's a interactive tablet in the torture room which is easy to miss but has great information too, definitely made my toes curl! The only criticism I have is how much of the information and stories are directed at the religious turbulence of the time, I understand that there was a lot and definitely a main feature of the prison but it got a bit much and I started to skip information boards, it would be nice to try to choose some of the non religious prisoners from the 100 years it was open. But, overall it was fantastic, great displays, interactive content and I was made very welcome as a solo traveler. My photo didn't load onto the website but I had it within minutes of messaging the museum.

Good for education not for adults
Dont want to give it a too low review as its a good little tour and a bit of history walk around. But I feel its very short. More for the kids though they learnt quite a lot about the old history of london so would advise it as an educational tour. Not really for adults. Lots of information and interactive things inside.

    Family friendly
Enjoyed our visit. Good value tickets for something ‘London’. Combine with a late lunch and a walk along the Thames and it’s a pretty perfect day without the usual huge price tag in London.

Not for the squeamish - but children will love it.
Not for the squeamish - but children will love it. A fascinating look at the old prison and what it got up to - well curated with lots to read and listen to. Well worth the admission for an hour of amusement, education and gore.

This place is totally my cup of tea, I really enjoyed it. Yes it only takes 30 minutes to get around but it's cheap to get in and the guide book was very interesting also. I went at Halloween which added to the spooky atmosphere.

This was such a cool experience! It’s a bit hidden away in a tunnel close to London Bridge, and as soon as we walked through the gates I knew I was in for a treat. Wasn’t busy at all and really interesting exhibits on the Clink itself, the role religion played in incarceration, torture methods and prison conditions.

Really loved being able to touch all the torture bits and pieces and the manacles. There’s a great free photo opportunity at the end with some prison bars - definitely don’t miss. Learned a lot for a small entry fee of £8 per adult and really enjoyed the immersive audio and waxworks. Would have loved a bigger gift shop with books on offer.

Okay, it’s not the REAL Clink with cells etc but very interesting and there is a piece of the real wall.

Really interesting place. Especially if you are a fan of the macabre. Used to walk past this place all the time when I worked around the corner but never had time to go in. Really glad I made the trip back to do it. Reasonably priced for a London attraction. Make sure you get the free photo at the end of the experience! The guy who worked behind the counter was really knowledgeable so also make sure you ask him any questions you may have!

It was very general, and quite repetitive.
There were a few gory exhibits with VERY annoying recordings on repeat.
Some more specific history and about how crime and punishment in the clink changed over time might be better, a purpose and a journey through the museum.
It's not a very big museum, and even then it seemed to be running out of information, e.g. here is half of a tudor shoe? Here is a replica of Cromwell's death mask.
A weird kind of pseudo-museum/scary showpiece.

Fun, cheap place to go in London to learn brief history of the area and how the prisons and the different tortures were used. Lots to read so more geared towards adults and older children rather than toddlers. It was informative and kept us occupied for around and hour.

Absolutely amazing! My 9 year old insisted on going after we passed it during our Muggle Tour which drew attention to this museum. After doing the Tower of London tour, my twins were hell bent on seeing real torture devices and this museum gave us not only the instruments to touch and try out, but the visuals and sounds (more Halloween type but not to the extent of terrorizing) along with some great facts tailored to both adults and kids. Despite being small, there was plenty to see, pick up, read for clues to the kids activity, and interact with that my duo came out learning something new and LOVED the ending photo behind a cell! If you have some macabre Halloween loving kids, bring them- worth the visit and the price was super reasonable for families. They said it was the BEST part of the London trip!

The lady on the desk was so lovely.
This isn’t the original prison but just some rooms underground that have information displayed on the walls. I thought you would see the old cells but it’s more looking at objects and reading the history. You can see a wall that is believed to be the original wall but that’s all. Nice idea though.
