The area
Neighbourhood: Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighbourhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.

Carnaby Street has a history going back to the Swinging Sixties when it was the centre of fashionable London.
I used to visit in the 80's when I was a lad and it was an exciting place which was somewhere to get things you could not get in the Home Counties. It was also where the pop magazine Smash Hits was produced and I used to stand outside with friends looking up at the offices wondering what they were writing about. They used to have a plaque up where the offices were but this has long gone.
Nowadays Carnaby Street is full of trendy shops selling lots of footwear and clothes. I am not sure it still has that same allure it had when I was younger but it could be I'm just a sad old person now...

It boasts a name that signifies a lifestyle. Sadly these days its just a street like most other streets that has sold out to the usual over priced label rubbish. If you're looking for something individual and fun, then you'll be seriously disappointed. If your a label geek with more money than sense, you'll love it.

I was in this street with my girlfriend during a holiday in London. The street, one of the most iconic in the city, is located in the Soho district. Here you can admire numerous shops and more intimate and particular venues. During the Christmas holidays the lights are fascinating. At Christmas 2023, all the planets of the solar system were recreated, a wonderful show that became almost magical at night. A visit not to be missed is the English capital.

Recent discovery of the Carnaby shopping area on my last visit to London.
Formed by a set of pedestrian streets next to Regent Street, it has a relaxed atmosphere and a set of shops and restaurants that are somewhat more "modern" and "alternative" to the rest of the neighborhood. Ideal for looking for slightly more different products and taking the opportunity to eat something (there are several typical pubs and a restaurant area in a charming interior patio).

Great neighborhoud, so cozy ! I miss it already. Nice shops, restaurants and everybody is so kind. I could also appreciate the tolerance in the street to everybody, it doesn't matter what colour, money, relgion, gender or planet you are. Awsome.

It is a pedestrian street located in the Soho area of London. We went with my husband in the morning and it was not too crowded, surely at night the movement of people must be much greater. It was very popular in the sixties and currently has a commercial character, with a variety of independent fashion and design stores, as well as a wide choice of picturesque bars.

I was in the area and thought that I'd take a trip down memory lane, or in this case Carnaby Street - somewhere I had first visited about half a century ago when the fashion was a little different.
Actually it didn't take me that long to walk down the street as I was only doing the very briefest of window shopping. I was just curious to see how the fashions have changed as depicted in a street which I used to consider to be the height of fashion decadence.
Many of the shops are now international branded names with the odd special clothing shop, chain coffee shops and even a nice, older, traditional pub.
I didn't spend long here before moving on down to Piccadilly Circus, Soho & China Town.

At one time in the 1960s in swinging London, this was THE street for the latest fashions. Much has changed but this is now an upscale shopping district with many unique shops and a colorful vibe. Beautifully decorated at Christmas time.

Lovely area great vibe. No where open after 11pm to get a drink and sit outside on a hot summer night after the London Palladium. Every where closed, but you can get a beer from 10am in the morning and sit outside.

Walking down Regent Street, it is inevitable to turn and enter Carnaby Street which always represents something special for London. It is a street that has been "fashionable" for more than 50 years. Colorful shops, lots of people and....SHOPPING....SHOPPING....SHOPPING....

Sorry I only can recommend in that area the dessert, but not a lunch or dinner.
