- RosCam47London, United Kingdom12 contributionsFantastic all round!I recently took the WSET level 2 Award in Wines here. It was fantastic! Jess was a brilliant tutor, she was knowledgeable, professional and personable. It was great fun. I decided to take the 7 week (2 hours every Tuesday evening) course. It gave me the chance to digest what I had learnt and to prepare in advance for the next lesson. The materials that came with the course were great - a workbook, accompanying detailed wine book to refer to and excellent revision material from ‘Wine with Jimmy’. What I know now, compared to when I started the course is amazing. I now feel confident with the wine knowledge I have learnt and will look forward at some stage to taking the level 3 course. This is a hidden gem of a place with great facilities, interesting courses and brilliant tutors. I would thoroughly recommend someone with a little knowledge of wine to begin with and wants to further their interest, to take this course.Visited September 2023Travelled on businessWritten 27 November 2023

I recently attended the online tasting of Grand Cru Alsace Riesling 2010 with West London Wine School. I really enjoyed the event and am looking forward to the next one on Nebbiolo in a couple of weeks. I understand on this night West London Wine School had a couple of hundred people on their various online wine events.
Jimmy ran the session with his usual enthusiasm and knowledge. He provided a very good overview of Alsace including the climate and geology, followed by more information on the Grand Crus and producers that we were tasting.
The 6 tasting samples (75 ml) for the event arrived a few days earlier; they were supplied in sterilised glass bottles which were topped up with an inert gas. The wines were all top notch and the empty sample bottles will not go to waste as I can use them to make reed diffusers (apparently).
The online tasting format opens up events to more people. I have also attended a number of meet the winemaker events with West London Wine School; long may this format for tastings continue.

I took the WSET level 2 online course during lockdown and really enjoyed it. Our instructor Rosie was extremely knowledgeable and kept us entertained with her stories of favourite wines and cities. I would recommend purchasing the WSET 2 selection of wines to taste over the 8 weeks. The course helped me expand my knowledge of wine and looking forward to signing up for level 3 in the new year!

Online course 'Tour de France' French wine course is brilliant. Jimmy Smith is elegant, entertaining and also knows a lot about wine, geology and specific wine regions. The optional tasting case that accompanied the course, was good value for money and meant that you could 'taste with Jimmy'.
Previously took part in Spanish Wine Scholar course, also fantastic with tons of information. We discovered grapes and wines that were new and delicious.

We have done a few of the online courses during lockdown. Jimmy was great on the History of Wine course. We are currently doing the Tour of Spain course, where we are discovering that there was a lot we did not know about Spanish wine. I have just completed the WSET level 2 course -the tutor Sam has been great.
All of the courses have been a great distraction from lockdown. The courses are well taught, you are sent a link afterwards so you can revisit the session (or watch it for the first time if you weren’t able to watch it live). You have the ability to ask questions and the tutors will happily answer them. Wine cases are available but you can source your own if you prefer.

Best thing to do during lockdown.
Fun and insightful virtual wine course with a good mix of theory and tastings. I can highly recommend doing a course with them, whether it is in person or virtually - like I did.
They will talk you through the main grape varieties before tasting the wines delivered to your home.
I did the WSET level 2 course and am already thinking about doing level 3!

We booked on to one of these online tastings - and got hooked. They are both enormous fun and highly informative. Through them we have discovered some wonderful wines, at all price levels, while our knowledge and understanding of wine in general has become deeper. A particular pleasure has been meeting online some of the winemakers; we just want to go and visit them on site.

Hi,
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review; we're so glad that you're having a great time on our meet the winemaker events. You're absolutely right - they make us want to go and visit them again too - maybe one day! Thank you for continuing to join us and your fellow wine peers and we look forward to 'seeing' you again very soon!

I had long intended to do WSET2 “live” but had never got around to booking it. When the Corona lockdown hit I saw the perfect opportunity to do the course remotely.
The course printed materials and a box of wines for the tastings were all delivered promptly. The live online lectures with a group of ~20 were very engaging and interesting with the option to interact on request. Each one hour lecture included one or more tastings from a wide range of wines. As we were all tasting identical wines the comments and comparisons were very relevant. Each lecture was followed by an informal Zoom chat room which I enjoyed.
The exam was conducted at home using a superbly efficient remote invidulation portal. I am proud to have passed with distinction.
The whole process has added tremendously to some wine, vineyard and winemaking knowledge from other courses and had really opened my eyes to how to analyse and describe a wine in a communicable way as well as to enjoying some wines that I had previously written off by prejudice.
Thanks WLWS.

My partner and I have organised tons of things to keep us happy and sane during Covid, but by far the best was Tuesday nights spent on Jimmy’s Wine Tour of France.
We like to think we both know a lot about wine 😉, but we both learnt a great deal and Jimmy’s immense knowledge, delivered with an engaging style, was just fab to immerse ourselves in.
The wine that accompanied the course was excellent too.
Loved it so much we’ve booked a WSET course.
Thanks!

We attended the online Introduction to Wine course with Rosie and it was very enjoyable. I would definitely sign up for more courses with the school immediately if I wasn't trying to diet!
I hope the West London Wine School continues the online courses, because evein in 'normal' times we may opt for them rather than commuting.
And Rosie was an absolute delight. I would love to join one of her trips to Rhone Valley.

We joined one of the online tasting sessions during lockdown. Jimmy's presentation was superb. The session was both very informative and enjoyable, and the wines (delivered to our home) were delicious too. Thank you West London Wine School.

Bonjour,
M.
