The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.

    Character filled and comfortable
Wonderful theatre with so much character and warmth. Its quite a small theatre but the seats had good leg room and a great view from the royal circle. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were there to see 'Noises Off'. Brilliant show with a tremendously hardworking & hilarious cast. An excellent nights entertainment in a wonderful theatre.

Noises Off .. perfect play at this theatre
Royal circle great view for Noises Off. Seats are snug!! Cast in this are amazing. Wonderful to see Felicity Kendal can hold the audience so we'll. Matthew Horne was incredible putting his heart and soul and slapstick into this role. You don't appreciate the first half until you get to see the second half!!

Great show and beautiful theatre .
Fools and Horses. Fantastic show! This was a great show, all the cast were excellent and there were classic moments added in... The falling through the bar flap, the dropping chandelier and Trigger's broom! Loved every minute! The theatre itself is beautiful, and all staff were friendly and helpful.

Rude Staff member Sarah to my 2 yes old daughter ruined entire experience.
Went to see The Tiger who came to tea was a lovely show. really good view from the balcony. But Staff were horrible!!!! My daughter was distressed in the toilets and it took me a while to calm her down I was then very rudely pushed out by a staff member Sarah completly disregarding that my daughter was distressed and refused to let me buy merchandise from the show to make her feel better! Literally got pushed out the door and she didn’t even wait for my daughter to step off the step before pulling the rope to close off the door. Will NOT go there again!!!

    Great Venue
Such a beautiful venue , it truly is a marvel of architectural features. The staff were friendly and helpful. Plenty of places to sit and have a drink - there is no mobile signal what so ever once you are inside. We went to see a production of Farm Hall , what an interesting true story and all 6 actors were superb. Highly recommend the venue and the production.

As a frequent west end goer, this theatre has disappointed on all fronts! The previous evening we were also at the theatre here we had to prove we were all double jabbed or had, had a negative test, instantly we felt at ease. Here no question of any sort of Covid immunity! We were left to stand in the rain until gone 7 for a 7.45 performance. Once allowed in we were sent to two different entrances before we were finally allowed in meaning double queing, this was simply due to the incompetence of door staff not knowing which tickets que where! We headed to the bar as we had the previous evening, on entrance to the bar we were met by a burly guard making us wait in the most extreme social distancing Measures you have ever seen. At the bar we asked for a bottle of wine (as we had the previous night) only to be told we could have it but it but would need to empty it into plastic pint glasses because we can’t take glass (are you kidding!!!). So my beautifully curled hair, glamours dress and heels all for a great night out are very much ruined by a pint of red wine, what a joke- what has happened to sophistication and class oh and being trusted as an adult to hold a class of wine!! Once again the previous evening at a well know musical I purchased a bottle and was given two wine glasses to take into the auditorium as did everyone else. Another downer was the total lack of any snacks, a very basic ice cream was the sad offering! The attempt to ‘socially distance’ meant officious verging on rude theatre staff apparently you cant stand and drink your drink in the cool, spacious foyer in case we got too close to each other, instead we were sent back to sit in the auditorium with 1000+ people, so close to each other our arms touched- really, who is running this place! Such a negative experience we considered leaving at half time!

We visited to see only fools and horses, which had been delayed for 2 years due to covid, so by time this came around we was really excited to see it.

Once the doors opened around 30-40 mins before the production was due to start we made our way to the royal circle seats, on this door there was a tiny office sized room with a make shift bar set up, it had a small optics stand with the very basic of spirits, and if you wanted beer there was a massive choice of estrella only in coke sized cans.

We asked for a Malibu and orange and a vodka and coke, we were given plastic throw away cups with a shot of vodka (or so we thought) and a can of coke and Malibu and orange in the other cup.
We made our way to our seats which we easily found and we sat down, the seats were so small us 6ft tall people had to put our legs round our necks, once the seats were filled up it was very cramped. And the seats were very uncomfortable and felt like no padding at all. But hey we had our drinks to keep us going.

I tried my Malibu and orange and nearly spat it over the people in front of me, she had put the orange in the vodka and given us the coke to mix with the Malibu. We did try to go back to the bar with so little staff running such a small bar for so many people the que snaked around the small room and out along the corridor. Really not worth waiting, so when we went for our second round of drinks we mentioned it to the girl, and she responded saying she had a feeling she had done that but didn’t think to say anything and didn’t offer a discount on our next round which cost £21 for the two drinks and a bottle of water. The drinks that were wrong. Even the bar staff admitted the prices were extortionate, I thought it was just because of London prices but even the locals think it’s to expensive.

In the future I’d rather miss a show than come back to this drab outdated overpriced theatre which is really disappointing after the build up of coming to the ‘theatre royal’. They should be ashamed it’s such a state and that they just rob their customers blind.

Terrible customer service and ticket sales operate practically like a scam. We were called to pay for our tickets via phone but never received the tickets or a receipt by email. I’ve been in contact with the theatre for a week now trying to get a refund on these tickets with no success. The “manager”, Matthew, was extremely rude in his response when we first contacted him, and is completely unwilling to provide any help, despite the fact that I’ve shown video proof that I never received an email with the tickets. The attitude seems to be “sorry you got robbed but it’s your problem.” Completely unprofessional.
Be very careful if you buy tickets directly with them, as you may never receive them and lose £200 and many hours of pointless email exchanges for your efforts.

Really poor theatre and the worst I have visited in the West End. We were left standing in the biblical rain whilst the warm, and dry lobby, lay empty.

Unlike most West End theatres there were no valuable Covid protocols. No requirement to be double jabbed or show a negative test and the show attracts a much younger clientele.

We were twice sent to different doors to enter and then redirected from the grand circle.

Doors opened just 40 minutes prior to the show starting so a captive audience os left outside with money burning in their pocket.

Unlike many theatres there is no glass in the auditorium so no bottle of wine just a child’s plastic half pint of wine. The only food available at the bar is ice cream.

Social distancing in the bar is incredible but totally in conflict that you then enter a 1000 seat theatre where there is poor mask adherence.

For a business focussed on service this was a very poor experience and commercially it is absolutely clueless.

Don't waste your money on tickets for this theater unless you're in the front row with no one sitting in front of you. This theater is small and cramped with a poor viewing experience in the stalls. My wife wasted £150 on tickets for row V 13, V14 today to see Only Fools and Horses. I saw nothing of the show due to my view being blocked by a tall broad man in the seat in front of me. Although the seats are staggered he insisted on leaning into his wife's shoulder throughout the whole performance which meant I couldn't see through the gap. It was a ridiculous experience and I wanted to get up and leave. I could hear the actors but saw very little of the show. I tried leaning to my right to see the stage but I got a neck ache and it was awkward for the person sitting to my right. If this was a product bought from a shop, I would regard it as faulty goods and ask for a refund. Unfortunately the moment has gone, and so has the money. Although I was there, I didn't see the show, just the the back of someones large head and shoulders. Stay away from The Haymarket Theatre, spend your money on something more enjoyable and worthwhile.

We were seated in the bench style seating and my gosh was it awful. You were were shoulder to shoulder with the person either side of you, knee to the bench in front of you, nowhere to store your coats or bags other than literally putting your feet on top of them and everytime someone wanted to leave from your row the entire row had to vacate as you couldn’t possibly squeeze past. I understand it’s bench style but there is no need to cram people in as much as they did. The height of each bench was not staggered enough nor was it slightly to one side, all I could see was the persons head in front of me as the height change isn’t enough and you aren’t seated to see between two heads. Overall appalling layout and not one positive comment was made by anybody around us. Back, leg and neck ache al round. I know these seats are cheaper but it really is not worth it, you can barely see and are not comfortable at all.

Saw a great show here but the Theatre experience wasn’t great.
Bouncers search you on the door which is all a bit intimidating but the thing that ruined the night for us was the ridiculous price of the drinks.
As there was a limited time to buy a drink in the interval and the obvious large queues, we ordered two each.
I had two small cans, the very little ones, of Amstel, cost me £16, my partner and her friends shared two bottles of Prosecco, £76.
It leaves you with that feeling that you have been ripped off which of course spoils the experience and makes for a very expensive night out.

Visted theatre for Only Fools and Horses show which was enjoyable. However, the Gallery seating was very uncomfortable. Back felt as though it was in two and padding of the bench seating was totally inadequate so you felt sore throughout. You could tell everyone was trying to adjust their seating position. View itself was ok and the price paid good but when at the expense of any comfort, then could not be deemed true value for money. On the same day, attended another theatre for an evening performance and gallery seating was excellent....... and at an even lower price.

Suggest some of the theatre management try to sit through a performance to see how comfortable they would feel !! Consider how the benches could be refurbished in much more comfortable modern materials.

We felt safe and cared for from the minute we approached and were guided to the correct door where another member of staff carefully helped us to Track and Trace before passing us to a third who showed us to our seats and explained the one way system and gave us a card to hold up when we were ready to order drinks, which were brought to us. This was the third performance since reopening and a huge effort has gone into operating under covid restrictions. My wife was delighted with the upgrade to the ladies loos. The play, Love Letters, was brilliant. Please support London's theatres as they struggle to recover from covid closure.

Hi visited in October to see 'Only Fools & Horses' which is a laugh a minute. Very impressed with the 18th century theatre from the outside to the inside & it's stunning decorations within. Walking within the theatre appeared easier than some of the older theatres. All the staff very friendly & helpful.
