Used this service to travel to Excel. Got on at Tower Gateway, swiped in using a credit card which makes the fare cheaper, only had to wait 5 minutes for the train to leave the station. Each new station is announced and appears on an electronic board so you can't go wrong. The trains are clean, modern, automated and very... More

Take the tour between the skyscrapers of canary wharf for some special views. Automated trains with no drivers but perfectly safe. Easy to use way to get around the docklands areas

Always good to ride the DLR. You get a great view if you sit at the front in the 'drivers seat' Staff are always happy to help, and trains are fast and efficient. Good for business links and tourists visiting East London

We travelled from Canary Wharf to Cutty Sark Greenwich last week on the DLR. What a fast and efficient service. The trains are driverless and have no guards. This line should be a model for all other train services in the UK. Don't forget to register your Oyster Card on one of the machines provided as you enter or exit... More

It had been so long since I had been on the DLR. Since then, the system has been extended from the tiny one that was built in the face of Thatcher's opposition to public transport to a frequent service of three-car units which is still fully automated. I went up from Royal Victoria to Bank, to be able to connect... More

We were so fortunate to have our hotel next to the DLR station on our trip to London. Just out of the front door and in to the train. It's a nice and fast way to get to the center of the city. Stops at 'Tower' or 'Banks' so right in the center. Every few minutes there's a train coming... More

DLR is a refreshing way to travel in east London - still can be cramped in carriages but getting to see out the windows and getting fresh air when stops is a bonus

This line can get busy if there is a problem which we experienced on the Saturday but it was very quick on the Sunday. The only problem we had was they changed the destination of the train after we had boarded. If English is not your first language you may miss the announcements as they didn't advise of the change.... More

The DLR offers nice views when compared to the underground but we do find that they don't offer a frequent enough service which then leads to overcrowded trains in peak times.

Staying in Westminster

Neighbourhood Profile
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
