Neighbourhood: Belgravia
Home to the vast majority of embassies and diplomatic residences in London, sophisticated and upscale Belgravia also boasts a wealth of luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, and some of the city’s most stroll worthy lanes. While the prices here are high, taking a leisurely stroll through the streets of picturesque and elegant white stucco houses is free. Hyde Park and the Buckingham Palace Gardens are only a stone's throw away to the north, and some of Europe’s best shopping is nearby as well.

- Richard DLondon, United Kingdom4 contributionsGreat burgers, lovely staffI’d heard of this place and was keen to check it out. Opportunity knocked on a school hols trip to London with my 7 year old son. I decided a pub lunch was in order. We arrived at about 12.30 ahead of any lunchtime rush and I wasn’t disappointed. The staff were fantastic, offering us a table in the restaurant. The burger was excellent washed down with the Grenadier ale. It’s not cheap, but I wasn’t expecting it to be. An excellent gem of a small pub in a lovely part of town off the beaten track. Will definitely be back sometime and will probably have exactly the same to eat and drink.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 April 2024
- Kelly BBarnet, United Kingdom2,916 contributionsNice food. Advisable to bookA small group of us came in for some lunch. The pub is small and quaint so recommend to book. Food is nice - good quality although not a massive choice. I think it’s fairly pricey as some dishes are mid £30’s but then have to add sides on. We had a burger and fish n chips which was about £40 so fairly reasonable. Would pop in again.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 22 April 2024
- CuriousTravelerRadioLancaster, Pennsylvania1,498 contributionsSalute & EatFirst visit to the Grenadier, and it was a wonderful, classic pub experience! Lots of choices on draft, and the modest menu presents many good choices. My simple choice of a hamburger was perfectly prepared, and the staff very welcoming. They also have a Ineos Grenadier parked outside which was a nice touch!Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 19 May 2024
- supersnooper44Suffolk, United Kingdom176 contributionsRESTUARNT FIRST, PUBLIC HOUSE SECOND.Tucked away in a quiet lane this is really a gastro dining pub with a simple menu and generous portions. Small bar area, tables squeezed in everywhere with regulars enjoying the food and drink. Appeared very busy for a wednesday lunchtime. Not a table to be had for two and the two or three outside tables were taken, so resorted to sitting on a garden bench and just had a drink. Guess you need to book ( if possible ) a table in advance if you want to eat.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 September 2024
- Have Camera, Will TravelSouth Bend, Indiana3,807 contributionsI'm here for the Beef Wellington! We had a morning time slot for the Buckingham Palace Tour, so I was looking for a place to have lunch around 1 or so. I also was very interested in finding a place to have Beef Wellington, which is one of the British meals we hadn't done yet. The Grenadier fit perfectly. Who doesn't love a good London Pub? I made the reservation for 2 directly with them via email and got a confirmation the next day. I was excited. We arrived and were promptly seated in the back at a tiny table. It was fine. The exterior is very cool. The interior is all old school charm. She ordered the steak and I ordered the Beef Wellington. We were going to share with each other, so this worked well. The Wellington was very good and the star. The steak was good. I highly recommend the Beef Wellington. This is a small, quiet place tucked behind a very upper class area of London. The cars on the main road that this back alley (Mews?) was lined with Rolls Royce, Bentley, Porsche, and the like. It almost seemed like a secret that it was back there. I know it is a well know pub, but the area makes it feel special. Highly recommend.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 September 2024

We went this Saturday just gone on arrival we were seated next to the gents toilet. We were really looking forward to the visit and especially looking forward to trying the beef wellington. After ordering drinks we decided to ask if there was a different table we could move to. The guy we asked looked extremely busy and advised us no this table was the only option, no apology no explanation. Since we were in London for a special occasion also we were on a tight schedule we decided to stay. Food was nice but felt totally let down by the service. Would we return. No. Couldn't chance being sat next to the toilet again. People walking past constantly, at one point a member of staff walked in to spray air freshener which of course ended up coming out into our seating area just as I was tucking into the beef wellington. Not nice. I feel had we been sat in the main bar our experience would have been totally different. I don't often write bad reviews if my experience is poor I prefer to mention it at the time, on this occasion unfortunately my concerns were not heard. Very disappointing. There were three tables in a small room at the back of the bar by the toilet please if* you are booking a table I would recommend checking where you will be seated as once you are in situ the staff will not be accomadting to move you!

Talk to anyone who has had Sunday lunch at Grenadier during the last several decades and you’ll receive that little smile of warm memories. We wanted a proper English meal on our last day of our London visit, and Grenadier kitchen & staff did not disappoint.
However, some things were amiss, we think. In all of our prior visits, Sunday lunch was a crowded and bustling affair - part of the charm, indeed. As far as the staff and management were concerned back then, it was all hands on deck. But, now the place was half empty, and although the staff were attentive, the management was not truly focused on anything going on around them. Whilst management were tucked in a corner talking amongst themselves, we had to hail them to get attention. Then, again, our Russian is rather rusty.

Took some friends here as, although a little out of our way, they'd never been and I knew it to be a great little pub with bags of character.
Unfortunately, when I went to get some drinks, I was met by a curmudgeonly chap fully decked out in a long white coat and face shield visor. It was like I was entering the set of Chernobyl. In as few words as possible, he pointed to an A4 sheet of instructions, the one with the code that requires scanning with your phone or sending a text somewhere. I asked about the text when the scan didn't produce anything on my camera, he had no idea. It worked on one of my friend's phone.
Drinks were fine, barman was okay, one ale on tap, reasonably priced for Belgravia.
There were 2 tables, 6 at one so they'd taken all but one chair from the other table. When my friend lifted the table to move it to the bench seat just outside the entrance so we could all sit down, out came our man to tell him off. So we left the table with the one chair for a single person to arrive and sit at!
Noticed one of the 6, who'd been there a while, try to go in and use the facilities, he was stopped and told to use the gel first? Presumably he will then wash his hands and reapply gel.
Because of COVID and it's detrimental effect on pub owners, I won't go less than 3 circles but it deserved a 2.

I would like to warn the many Italian and non-Italian tourists, that reservations made with a credit card are charged even if you are unable to reach the pub. At the time of booking you establish a contract that can only be cancelled 48 hours before the scheduled time. I lost 100 euros, not being able to reach the pub as established, for an accident occurred to a friend of mine. In Italy, warning the local or not, nothing like this has ever happened to me.

This is not a pub you would ever discover unless someone recommends it. It is such a joyful place. It's tiny but in the summer the crowds spill onto the cobbled street in the front, not that there are any chairs!
They serve lunch in two small rooms behind the bar. Beef wellington is their specialty and I enjoyed this as a Christmas treat with a long-term friend. It was a wonderful lunch and, although slightly pricey, we had a fabulous time. Probably best to book ahead if you plan to eat here.
Because the bar is tucked out of the way, it really does feel special to be there, even though you're slap bang in the middle of London. It's definitely filled with charm.

Absolutely lovely pub with a great tap selection and a Sunday Roast to die for. The beef wellington was unbelievable. Bar staff was cheery and very helpful, and though the pub was very busy, they were able to keep up with service at a great rate. Sitting at the bar, we never had an empty glass for more than a few seconds. Cannot recommend this pub enough.

Buy your drinks at the bar. The staff will try to get you to put it on the bill so they can charge an extra 12.5% service. Despite booking, we were shown to a very small table. We were overcharged and although the bill was eventually changed, there was no apology. The food is ok but overpriced and the beer is well kept, but the attitude of the staff needs to improve.

The place is worth a visit only for its legend and decoration. If you also add good food, original and good staff treatment I find it a highly recommended restaurant. The staff helped us a lot with the language. Price a little high but deserves it so we will repeat when we return to London without hesitation.

We go to Grenadier for the beef Wellington, especially since it can be served for just one person. And it’s a wonderful tasting moment.
The cooking of the fillet is perfect, the gravy sauce excellent and the two purees very tasty.
The old setting is an additional asset.
The only downside was that that evening, the service at neighboring tables was disastrous: two Italian tourists who had ordered the Wellington saw their order arrive at another table of customers who had arrived after them. The kitchen was closing: the two Italians were compensated with a plate of cheeses.

A small group of us came in for some lunch.
The pub is small and quaint so recommend to book.

We had a burger and fish n chips which was about £40 so fairly reasonable.
Would pop in again.

Hi, just saw your question so probably a little late. It would be a difficult pub to take a dog to because it is usually very busy and the dog would get trampled!

Is the Grenadier still children free or are they welcome for dinner.?
Written 2 June 2019
I agree with the above answers - small pub not really for a child.
