- hellsEdinburgh, United Kingdom37 contributionsBrilliant serviceExcellent way to get from Docklands to the O2. It’s a fast and efficient service and just like getting on the tube. It’s was really pretty at night. It’s open from 8am to 11pm and you can use your Oyster card or just a bank card to get on.Thank you so much for sharing your cable car experience with us. Really glad to hear you had a great time and we look forward to having you back soon. - Paul B5 contributionsWarm welcome, though a tad pricey.Welcomed at the box office by Mark. Got all the information we needed and got a trip in before our next activity as a result. Great views, clean and quiet on a weekday morning. Not the cheapest for a 20 min round trip, ut it is London 🤷♂️ (£12 ea)Thanks for getting in touch with us to share your cable car experience with us. - Yaara STel Aviv, Israel91 contributionsA fun way to get to the O2 arenaI was heading to the O2 Arena for a concert so thought this would be a good opportunity to check these cable cars out. For only £6 one-way (which you can pay with a contactless payment method) I got from one side of the river to the next and saw the views along the way. While the views are not the main attraction (they're not special in any way, in fact they're underwhelming) - and I wouldn't recommend going there especially - I do recommend giving it a try if you're heading to the O2 anyway. Thanks for sharing your cable car experience with us. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed the ride overall. - emma_j2313Leeds, United Kingdom9 contributionsPerfect to visit the O2 if you are staying near Excel arenaI was staying at the ibis hotel near the excel arena for an event. I had never visited the O2 arena before. I was told I could get the cable car there and back for £12 return. It's a short walk from the excel arena to the cable car. To pay you can use contactless or pay at the ticket window. I had a cable car to myself there and back which was amazing. The cable cars are clean and spacious and beats being on a tube in rush hour that's for sure! Would definitely recommend going on this if you are staying overnight near the excel arena as travelling to the O2 gives you lots more food options.Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. - Vacationer7450942 contributionsAbsolutely extraordinary. We visited the Cable Car in Greenwich a few months ago, and decided to go again because it was extraordinary. We were served by the wonderful and memorable Marc, who we previously encountered, and he remembered us. A very friendly man. The views of the Cable Car are astonishing. It takes you 295ft in the air! If you are in London, visit North Greenwich Tube Station and visit the sky.Hi, thank you for taking the time to write this review. There are so many attractions in London of vastly differing types but this must rate very highly , in my opinion.
I see some people have had to queue for a long time & I suppose it depends on many factors as to why that is but I picked a lovely , sunny day midweek & arrived at North Greenwich Tube Station before 10 am. It is only a 4 or 5 minutes walk to the boarding station. No queue - paid with contactless & walked up to the boarding platform where the cabins come in & out with a 30 seconds interval. You just get into a cabin & the door closes automatically as you leave. When you pay you will be issued with a paper ticket which is inserted into the turnstile at the boarding platform.
With Covid restrictions still in place I had the cabin to myself so could enjoy the views without interruption.
Crossing time was just under 10 minutes. You arrive very close to The Excel Centre.
I had bought a return ticket so just stayed seated.
The views were spectacular & I really think the trip was absolutely great value for under a tenner. Friendly , helpful staff.

Whilst on a day trip to London, we decided to head to Greenwich via the cable car from the Royal Docks.
On arrival the queue was huge and with no amenities this side of the river we decided on the Private Cabin option. This was expensive - £60 - but we jumped the queue and saved around an hour.
The views were great and when we arrived at Greenwich we spent 20 minutes in the Aviation Experience which was included in the price.
An enjoyable, if expensive experience.

Visited on Wednesday 23rd June 2021 as part of a day trip to London (First and last visit was during the 2012 Olympics). Got to the Emirates Airline Cable Car at Royal Victoria Docks via the docklands light railway station which is next to the Royal Victoria Dock end. Only £4 one way on pay and go. Cable car every 30 seconds and a 10-minute journey to the 02 on the Greenwich Peninsula. Not busy when I visited and though I went to buy a ticket from the ticket office as I had a travel card and there was a discount available on a ticket I was advised it was cheaper still just to use debit card tap and go. The car you enter whilst it is still moving so you cant be so infirm that you can't walk onto a slow but still moving object. The doors close automatically and you are away. Many have commented that the view is majestic but it is still just East London end of the Thames, so you get a nice view of the said river and the 02 but don't expect a great deal else. Still, a fun ride and I used to access the Thames Clipper/Uber Boat pier at the 02 for an onward journey down the Thames towards Westminster, but in truth, unless you want a ride for fun there seems little point in this transport option being here.

This is a great way to see some of London from above. I went after 7.00pm as the cable car travels slower after 7.00pm so you ride across takes a couple of minutes longer. More time for taking in the views. I think it usually takes about 10 minutes one way but after 7.00pm it is between 12-13 minutes one way. There also seems to be less people on at this time of night so you have a great chance of having a car to yourselves. Not sure if this is differs during the day.
The views are fantastic and the price is also very good. A return ticket is normally £9 return, however if you show your Oyster card it will only cost £7 return. A great way to cros the Thames. Highly recommend you take the trip over.

The good: the ride was smooth and the views were good.
The not so good: organisation at the ticket office was non existant. Even though there were plenty of staff around none were directing people or assisting the long queue for tickets, nor did any bother to open any other sales window to speed things through. There was a rubimentary queing system but the ropes and post had gaps in them so people were queing in all directions. Information posted was confusing and misleading with signs prominent 'selling' premium tickets for packaged experiences that were really pretty expensive. It took some persuasion at the window to actually get a simple return flight ticket at £8. That's all it should cost you.
It's quick. Didn't time it but having got in the air and taken a couple of photos we were dropping back to the ground. I'd guess 3 to 4 minutes max.
Unless you are really bored and stuck for things to do, wouldn't really recommend it.

The cable car itself was good, some good views although the ones advertised weren’t mostly visible really, just the o2 and the city. Although the views of both of those were really good. Queue time was ridiculous for the length of the journey, I was 40 mins in the queue and even though I had a return ticket, was told I had to get off the cable car and queue again for the return. This despite there being many, many people doing so in the other cable car terminal. Wasn’t able to use my return ticket because of this, wasn’t going to queue that long again to get back, so just took an alternate transport route. Buy a one way maybe, save a couple of quid or be prepared to spend way too long queuing

Used to go to the bike show, staff very helpful and ride and views good. The downside is queueing in the freezing February weather for 1/2 an hour, leaving you frozen stiff and takes the shine off the ride. We bought a return ticket and actually abandoned going back when we found even longer queues for the return journey, preferring the warmth of the DLR to another icy cold wait!

Visited here on the recent bank holiday Sunday evening. We just wanted to take a return trip to see the views and did so just as night was setting in so the sights were fantastic!
We went from the North side, asking the attendant about travelling by contactless for the return trip and were told to just get on and stay on. Once we arrived at the other side the staff told us as paying contactless we needed to get off to touch out and in again and then get back on. We headed down to do so assuming we would be allowed straight back up, an exceptionally rude young female told us we had to join the back of the queue that was about 45 minutes long at that point! When I told her that the other side hadn’t mentioned that we would have to get off or queue again, having already queued on the north side in the first place (if we had paid online we wouldn’t have had to get off for the exact same cost) she wasn’t interested and pretty much said it was tough!
It cost £5 per trip each and the views were stunning but based on the queuing, the misinformation and the rude staff we would not go back any time soon.

I'm sorry about the poor customer service you received and your long wait for a ride back. The Round Trip journey, where the guests can stay on if they choose to is only with a ticket bought from the ticket office or a Round Trip, or VIP fast track ticket purchased online. Oyster and Contactless are valid for one way journeys only.
My apologies once again that this was not made clear to you. Details of your experience and feedback will be shared with the team to improve our service. Please could you DM us and let us know the time this happened and a description of the member of staff, which will help us investigate this further. Thanks again for visiting us. Jamie.

I went on the Monday of half term having just read some terrible reviews so was feeling a little anxious about taking my family.
We got there about 11.00 and there was barely a queue and we were on the cable car within 5 minutes.
We all thought it was excellent, well worth the money. We booked a round trip which also included a booklet and a trip to the museum after which was also excellent.
Would definitely recommend.
Make sure though that you prebook your tickets as its more expensive at the desk.

We had a spontaneous trip to the cable cars as we are aware booked in at the Sunborn yacht nearby.
We made a short a five minute walk at around 8 pm in the evening. Our tickets cost approximately £9 each as I had an oyster card which gave me a small discount.
At this time there was no queue so myself and my son had a pod to ourselves.
The timing was perfect as the sun was just setting and we could see the view below with all the pretty lights twinkling.
As it was so quiet we were able to stay in our same pod to make the same return journey.
We saw London from a different perspective. Having stayed at The Shard and had dinner at the Sky Garden we have enjoyed seeing London from above and this gave us yet another view.
Well worth doing if you are in the area.
A bit of a trek if you are coming from central London.
A reminder that if you are not from the area then one of the main ways to visit is by the underground and the DLR. If you come out at the Excel Centre there are no physical barriers where you must use your card to open the barriers. Do remember to tap the ticket machine otherwise you are in danger of being overcharged if you do not tap out. This happened to me. Luckily one of the underground staff members reimbursed me on my oyster card.

I have never been to the cable cars by the 02 after a concert before but I can imagine it gets very busy. However it is a lovely ride on the cable cars and I would highly recommend it

Hi, if I purchased the multi journey ticket for 17 pounds it mentions this is upto ten 1 way journeys and valid for 12 months. My question is does 1 way mean it can only be used from Royal Docks to the other side or can also be used the other direction?

Yes, exactly , one way means one way otherwise it would specify the specific direction.
It is a pleasant and interesting experience ,the cable car, especially as you get to see so many different people of different cultures and religions all working together to help the passengers

Hi there,
I was going to get a standard round-trip ticket for IFS Cable car. I just wanted to ask if we can hop on & off? Like if we get on from Greenwich & get off at Royal Docks, roam around & then get back to Greenwich again. Is that possible?
Also, do we need to get printed copies of booked tickets with us or mobile tickets are fine?
Thanks in advance xx
Written 6 June 2023
I only went one way and used my Oyster card. People were showing printed tickets and tickets on their mobiles to get on. I presume you can use your tickets anytime but best to ask as I did not return on the cable car.
