- BluebellplasnewyddCardiff, United Kingdom2,042 contributionsUnique and magicalThis is the inner sanctity for magicians but it is in a rather non-descript building behind Euston Station. There is an amazing circular staircase and museum. The latter contains information and exhibits from well known historical magicians. There is also a small bar but strangely the rooms we saw were devoid of windows. The highlight was an intimate show performed by 4 separate and single magicians and this was exceptional with audience involvement. Overall somewhere to visit if you are able.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 10 October 2023
- marky1124Weybridge, United Kingdom29 contributionsWonderfully skillful close-up magic tricksWe went to a close-up magic evening. It's a very intimate space. Just a few dozen audience members, and four separate magicians performing close-up magic just beyond arms reach. Each magician was really engaging and brought their own style and skill to the show. It's such a lovely atmosphere, the magicians clearly love performing as they stay in the bar after the main show, ready to chat and continue to show even more tricks to those that are interested. I highly recommend it.Thanks for coming and for highly recommending it. - mire16Berlin, Germany5 contributionsHalloween Show and Spirits Cabinet 2023The 2023 Halloween Show was okay: a charming hosts, a couple of magicians, a juggling artist. Nothing to write home about, though, especially since the only female in the programme was scantily dressed and danced around in an LED butterfly costume after appearing magic-assistant-like from another magician's trick, not performing any magic herself. In general, the entire evening might have benefited from a woman's perspective, but the Magic Circle did not seem to have left its patriarchal past in the past. The bar sold reasonably priced cocktails that were light on alcohol and that you could not take into the theatre. This I actually found refreshing, but telling the audience that would have been nice, especially since the seats had not been allocated. Before the performance or in the interval you could visit the museum - a room with famous magician's items and you even got a guide explaining three things to the assembled crowd. The seance with a Victorian inspired Spirits' Cabinet was too clownish for my taste, but a nice nod to the Halloween occasion. All in all, an evening to explore the famous magicians' headquarters and the weird fraternity feeling it projects, but a bit too expensive for a lack of wowing tricks or names.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 31 October 2023

- Y MLondon, United Kingdom11 contributionsReally funWent to the Christmas show which was excellent. The magic was of course impressive, but more than that, the whole experience was so friendly and good natured, we felt like guests invited to a private party more than spectators. I took two rather grumpy/sceptical guests, one old one young, but they actually both had a great time for once. Go as soon as doors open: there is an atmospheric private museum with some interesting stuff including an original copy of a book on witchcraft that dates from medieval times, Tommy Cooper’s fez, etc, and also there is a bar and magicians wandering around doing tricks. There was a lady upstairs making free silhouettes of people, I wish I’d realised earlier that she was there! Thanks for coming and we're all pleased you had an amazing time. The magic was very good and even if it was nothing too groundbreaking. The view wasn’t the best at the back of the theatre but just about adequate. The museum is small but a nice add on. Tucked away on a backstreet and with a small bar inside, it makes for an unusual evening’s entertainment. Thanks for coming and hope you visit one of our other events in 2024! Managed to get hold of tickets for the last night of their Christmas show, and I am so glad we did as it was utterly brilliant! As part of the show you can be shown round the museum, which had some “really cool things in” said my teen son (high praise indeed) and our guide was very entertaining in his explanations of the “really cool things” (no spoilers here)…. “Sod the panto, come here” is now our Christmas motto, but don’t tell everyone or we won’t all get tickets…Thanks for coming and we look forward to seeing you later this year!Written 15 January 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 January 2024

Whilst the exterior of the venue, down a back street leading to a building site very near Euston Square tube, was unprepossessing, the interior was very suitable, all dark, and mysterious. We were welcomed by the host at the door and shown into a room with a bar with very reasonable prices. We sat in front of a small table in two semicircles of maybe 12 people. Upstairs there was a similar room. There were four magicians performing close up magic, two before the break and two after. The break allowed a visit to the modest but fascinating museum, and the bar. All four magicians were amazingly good in their different ways with tricks we'd never seen before and variants of some older tricks. The audience was often involved in the magic and great fun was had by all. A marvellous evening's entertainment and highly recommended. Well worth a visit.

One of London's better kept secrets !!
4 magicians, with about 20/25 mins each - all excellent. It's a small venue, with only around 70 or so people, arranged on 2 floors - so you get really, really close up views (but you still can't work out the tricks !!).
There is a 30 min break, so you have a chance to look around the Magic Circle museum
Excellent value at £35/person, specially compared with say a West End theatre ticket.
(Very close to main line and tube stations).

Enthralling! I can’t recommend ‘Close-Up at The Magic Circle’ enough. I went last Friday and watched pure magic alchemy performed by four very gifted magicians who are some of the best tricksters in the country.
The line-up changes and on the night I went there were four sensational turns. I was impressed by the variety of their different acts. Most notably is the divine, highly entertaining Alex Sprackling who is a top sleight of hand. Sprackling delivers an incredibly slick act full of sensational card tricks, and banter for that matter! The debonair Adam Bownass must be commended for a series of highly entertaining, very clever scarf tricks and he sports an impressive moustache too! Anyone who has ever tried a Rubik’s Cube either successfully, but on the whole unsuccessfully, must watch the brilliant Elijah Ko who drew gasps from the audience, and Wayne Fox is clearly a seasoned veteran trickster whose act features a wide repertoire of extraordinary card tricks and vanishing objects. Each act is introduced by a host, and last Friday we were entertained by the eloquent John Duffett in a manner reminiscent of 1950’s CBS chat show host, Ed Sullivan.
All four magicians invited audience members to participate and if you are seated in the front row, it’s highly likely you will be called upon to pick a card, “pick any card”!
They are a truly talented crack team of illusionists, and the variety of their very different acts provides a constant buzz of excitement in the intimate cabaret atmosphere. It’s no wonder virtually every seat was taken and they received standing ovations.
The acts take place on two floors – in the Club Room and the Devant Room (named after the first President of The Magic Circle, David Devant) and the magicians rotate, swapping rooms after the interval.
I recommend the VIP ticket which includes a tour of this wonderful venue beforehand - there’s plenty to see, from Tommy Cooper’s famous fez and Martini bottles to props used by Harry Houdini and Paul Daniels, amongst others. There are some great touches. I particularly love the Victorian posters on the stairwell, in fact every inch of the walls and corners of the rooms are all peppered with images and memorabilia from yesteryears of magic.
The BEST entertainment in town, delivered by the most charismatic magicians par excellence, performed in an Aladdin’s cave of wonder and marvels. Value for money and a top night out. Get your tickets now. Go! Abracadabra!

We went to "The Magic Circle Mysteries" show; do get there early to look around the museum which is itself really interesting, with members available and offering information on the exhibits many of which are historically fascinating as well as being genuinely interesting. Before the show and during the 25 ish min interval there is also some close up magic to experience (all were excellent). The show comprised 4 different magicians as well as a compare also a magician. All were quite different, all were excellent .
The auditorium is small so visibility looked to be good from all seats. If you're sitting in the front row or in an aisle seat, expect to be called on to participate, in the nicest possible way....says she who sat as far away from an aisle as possible :-)
Well worth going & we are looking forward to going back.

An evening of history, charm, humour and wonder.
Four varied, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ close up performances showcasing classic favourites and original magical mysteries kept all ages entertained and fascinated.
The building holds memories and fun facts going back through the ages of magic and is in itself worth a visit.
Wonderful and knowledgeable hosts provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere and an evening to remember! Bar staff excellent.
Lots to talk about next day and much seen which is impossible to explain!
Time stopped in that cosy place where magic happened and everyone was relaxed and happy.
Will definitely be returning! Thank you Magic Circle for opening your doors.

This is a great evening out for everyone who enjoys a bit of magic from the young to the not so young (but still young at heart), in groups, couples or on your own. The show featured 4 magicians delivering a variety of tricks over the course of 20 or so minutes each. Thoroughly entertaining the time flies by. All the acts were well rehearsed and amazing to watch. Audience participation is guaranteed without embarrassing anyone. There's a bar for refreshments and during the interval you are able to walk around the club and visit the museum as well. Overall, well worth a visit if you're in town.

We booked close up magic tickets here sight unseen and somewhat last minute after a different magic show we booked canceled during the Queen's funeral weekend. We could not have been more pleasantly surprised. We were welcomed by the very friendly host who was standing at the door to guide those wondering if they had made the right turn down the rather unassuming alleyway in which the club sits. From that moment, we stepped into a very authentic, friendly, intimate, no frills experience. Forget the moody melodrama of some modern magic performances, here you sit in a semicircle only two rows deep around a simple table, ensuring that everyone has an unobstructed view of the unbelievable skills on display. We would definitely go back.

Wooooww! This was my first visit and will definitely not be the last!! It was a truly amazing night, as I waited patiently in anticipation to see how the night would unfold, not fully knowing what to expect and frankly, I was mesmerised by all four magicians that performed some incredible close up magic, to a small, yet receptive and intimate, child friendly audience!!!
The night was artfully glued together by the host, all the magicians were not good - they were great and the man that stuck out for me was Michael Vincent! If you haven't seen Michael perform yet, you need to because he takes showmanship and his craft of magic to another level - you'll be more than surprised to see what he can do with a piece of rope!!
The Magic Circle is a hidden secret in London, tucked away near Euston. It's cosy, comfortable and boasts a museum with artefacts dating back to the 19th century! There's a bar where you can grab drinks and snacks during the intermission and I highly recommend that you visit The Magic Circle - you will not be disappointed!! ~ DJ Mr.P

This was my second time attending a close-up magic show at The Magic Circle and I couldn't recommend it enough if you're looking for a fun, unique and memorable night in London!
We saw four magicians, who were all extremely talented and left us completely in awe of how they do their tricks.
It was such a fun night - lots of audience participation, reasonably priced bar and the ability to explore the history of magic and see lots of old magic artefacts before/ after the show. Highly recommend!

No it's a low cost ticketed event. The income keeps the place open. Check the website as the museum may be free in the day. It's a jewel of a place full of history and some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I plan to go back next year on my birthday 🎂

Hi, how long does the Christmas show last?
Written 4 December 2019
The Magic Circle website says there are two performances (on various dates) lasting about two and a half hours:
Matinee - doors open at 1330 with the show starting at 1430 and finishing about 1700
Evening - doors open at 1800 with the show starting at 1900 and finishing about 2130
Finish times are guides rather than ‘hard and fast’

Where can we take our young grandchildren to eat after Christmas matinee please

As it is situated near a busy railway station, there are lots of food places nearby. There are a few small cafes in the area too.Check out London theatreland guide for places to eat before or after shows.

Is this show open during February?

I have checked the web site too and you are right. There are no shows advertised until March 2019. They may be in the planning stage but you can contact the Magic Circle directly through their web site (Contact Us) and ask them if any other shows are planned for early 2019. I hope this helps!
