Address
Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

We used a buy a gift voucher that could be booked in advance which is the 'view from the shard for 2 with champagne'. I wanted to make sure of a timed slot on the day I wanted and guaranteed entry with skipping the queue. This worked very well.
This was a good price too. Cheaper than paying direct as had a special offer with buy a gift. We do not like champagne and the staff were very obliging. Could have a soft drink or an icecream instead. We had 2 scoops of the icecream which was delicious.
The views are great. Could do with better seating like, chairs not sofas and more spread out. As when busy many people could not sit down. Not allowed to sit by the windows. Toilets available and they had windows with a view too. 2 lifts are used to get you to the top and a further staircase to reach to the highest area. Staff were friendly and the photos of us taken could have been bought in a book presentation which looked quite good but price was too high at £25. If the price was say £12 more would be bought I am sure. Bag security at start a good idea.

I used my clubcard vouchers for this as the end of our day in London. It's a fantastic view and all the staff we interacted with were friendly, professional and helpful. A spe ial mention to Mia at the bar on 69 who didn't flinch when we explained we were celebrating my late husbands birthday. She was kind, empathetic and very thoughtful. It made a special, poignant visit even more special. So thank you.
I liked you could stay as long as you liked. Upstairs was a tad chilly but so nice too. The whole place was very nicely presented, and even though it was busy we still got a good glance out of all the windows and we're lucky enough to get a seat too.
Yes the drinks are pricey, but this is London and they really were not much more than most bars here in the capital.

Disappointing visit and not sure it was worth the high cost. Photographs are taken immediately after going through security - my partner was still putting on his belt when the photographer said there was no time to wait for him to put it back on. It seems such a waste that these are automatically printed for when you come back down - unsurprisingly we didn't want to buy photos of someone with a belt hanging off!
The view from the top was good, as can be expected, but there was not enough seating for everyone and people were told off for sitting on the floor. It did feel a bit like we were being herded there in various elevators.
Having visited similar attractions in other countries I've seen how well this can be done. Since the visit I've been told by locals that you can see a similar view by visiting one of the restaurants instead.

Be very careful with the ticketing. Their IT made a mistake with mine and they charged me £15 extra when I arrived although the mistake was theirs !
Nothing wrong with the view. Drinks very expensive, though.

A sunny afternoon , a Borough Market tour, and there was the Shard. A short line to go up, I purchased tickets while in line, and quickly through and up the lifts. Definitely worth a look , and have a drink as well. Must have been in a good mood, we even purchased from the gift shop. The outstanding thing was all the staff, without fail every single one was polite, friendly and helpful.

The ticket was bought as a present but it was not possible to book a day or time in advance. We just turned up on the day of the visit and waited for approx 15 minutes to get in.
I bought a virgin experience day voucher for the shard and Marco Pierre white meal and we’ve decided to visit London on a Tuesday and have booked the meal - however the virgin experience day voucher says you can only book the shard Wednesday-Sunday. Could we just turn up to the shard on Tuesday?

Hi Tayler,
We are currently closed on a Tuesday which is why you are only able to book a time on Wednesday-Sunday. Please note that you must have a timeslot booked prior to arrival with a Virgin Experience voucher as we cannot book this in on the day of your visit.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Kind regards,

Anyone try The View from the River Cruise? Worth it? Debating whether to try this cruise, The London Eye River Cruise or just take the Thames Clipper.

Can you book just a general admission ticket on their website? It seems to be only essential, deluxe, mid week or family?

It is hard to book tickets for any day, lunch or otherwise. What I will say is make sure you check all the fine print on any ticket you choose as the prices do change considerably hour by hour, day by day.

It was £12.50 for a glass of champagne. That's as much as we saw I'm afraid.

I expect with Covid restrictions currently in place that you may not be able to turn up without a booking. I would recommend calling ahead first to make sure to avoid disappointment.
