Neighbourhood: Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.

I was welcomed so wholeheartedly by the priest and a very well spoken kind woman .
The atmosphere in the church was exceptionaly peaceful. The smell and ambience was magnificent. I arrived after the morning service on Sunday. They let me in to pray and light a candle.
I am glad to have come across the church in my godly walk of ☮️ peace.
Thankyou St George church .

St. George's Bloomsbury is an English Baroque style church found on the Bloomsbury Way, just a couple blocks away from the British Museum.
The church was built as a result of the 1711 Act of Parliament to build 50 new churches around the city. Nicholas Hawksmoor, a star pupil of Sir Christopher Wren, was the designer and lead architect of St. George's Church, which was consecrated in 1736. This was Hawksmoor's sixth and final church built as part of the city's church building initiative.
The interior of St. George's Church is rather simple and modest, making it more ideal for worship than tourist visits. However, there are some interesting things to see here. Do have a look at the lovely 17th century Dutch chandelier (on loan from the V&A) hanging in the nave. You can also find attractive stain-glassed windows, a nice alter area and a marble memorial to Charles Grant just above the original entrance door in the back of the church, not the side entrance used to enter from Bloomsbury Way.
When outside, have a look at the church tower, which features heraldic beasts, being two lions and two unicorns and an intriguing pyramid like spire, topped by male figure. The tower is bit difficult to see due to the height of the surrounding buildings but you can imagine how interesting it would have looked in centuries past.
Overall, St. George's - The Parish Church of Bloomsbury is a decent church to visit if you intend to spend time in this part of the city. It can be viewed quickly and is only a few minutes from the main entrance to the British Museum so it would make sense to schedule a stop here before or after you visit the museum.

We were on an organised walk visiting Hawksmoore churches. We had pre-arranged access to the interior. The restoration of the inside makes a usable space for worship and preserve the design of the 18th century genius. The tower is like nothing else.

This is a beautiful church that was designed by architect Nicholas Hawksmoor. It is amazingly light and airy, with a classical feel. There is a lot of history here which is not really as well explained as it might have been. There was a (volunteer?) guide sitting at a desk and he showed us some really interesting information about how the church had been restored to its classical self after having been 'prettied up' in the 19th century. It would have been nice if there was a bit of display in the church to explain all this, but I guess it is primarily a place of worship, which is fair enough. There was reportedly a display in the 'undercroft', but that did not seem to be open except when exhibitions were mounted. I got the feeling it was managed separately, but could be wrong.
Nevertheless, the church it is absolutely worth a visit and as the church is so compact you can see it easily in half an hour. It is very near other Bloomsbury attractions.
Don't miss the very amusing little St George picture at the front of the church.

Not a must but if your in the area. I went for Christmas carols. Big and well kept but lacked character. Quite dull. Near to Holborn underground.

Came here multiple times to find the church firmly locked even though the lights were on inside. Nice on outside.

This older church is fairly small but boasts some very good acustics. This church has some great choir concerts well worth the visit.

Came here for second year in a row to see Nigel Shaw & Carolyn Hillyer perform their magical earthy music.
The space inside lends itself perfectly to the sounds of Carolyn’s singing and drumming, whilst Nigel’s flutes soared like larks above.
Beautiful!! Xx

This is the Anglican Parish church for London's wealthy Mayfair district. The composer Handel worshipped here and it now hosts an annual Handel music festival. The exterior is quite monumental belying a lovely and relatively simple interior, dominated by a stunning organ above the entrance. Well worth a visit.

Yet another church visited between waiting for trains. This is a small church with an attractive interior. Some lovely stained glass windows, nice alter and a magnificent chandelier.
