Garden Lodge was a short walk from our Kensington hotel and both of us being Queen fans we decided to take a walk in the neighborhood to see it. There's a tall wall around the property, so there isn't much to see, but still a good spot for Queen fans to visit. This is the last house Freddie Mercury lived in and he left it to the love of his life, Mary.

It’s a little out of the way, and there isn’t much to see, but for fans of Freddie Mercury it’s a cool stop. I was glad we went and saw it and snapped a few photos. If you are short on time, due to its proximity from the tourist area in London, you might want to skip.

Although Freddies home isn't available to see fully and the grounds have changed considerably since his passing 25yrs ago, fans are still drawn to his home. Respect has to be shown as it's Marys home now so i don't post stuff on the wall etc, but feel strangely drawn to the home, kind of England's Graceland.
Respect Mary and the family, but we miss Freddie

Since I was 12 I wanted to get to Garden Lodge to look at Freddie Mercury House. I went to London on February and I had the time to get to Garden Lodge, I was very curios about what I would have found there because I heard quite different informations about the actual situation. Actually You don't find anything reminding the best singer of the History, Mr. Freddie Mercury. All the fan's graffitis have been deleted and a plexiglas cover protect the wall before the main door of the house.
It was really emotional for me even though nothing reminds you that it was Freedie Mercury living there.
Later, my consideration was that Freddie needs a statue or a commemorative monument in London.

A former home of Freddie Mercury, but now just private residence in Kensington. Nothing here to indicate that Mercury once lived here.
Nothing to see and waste of time. Good thing I was in High Street Kensington anyway.

As a Queen super-fan and being Freddie Mercury obsessed, visiting Freddie Mercury's house was on my bucket list. I've wanted to visit for a long time. I'm very spiritual and feel peace within myself now that I've paid my respects. I believe that every true Queenie or Freddie fan should visit at least once if they are able to. You can push a message under the edge of the glass that covers the main doorway. I left him a message and some flowers. I felt very emotional here. I had a lot of powerful mixed emotions standing outside. We were soon joined by other fans and we just stood together in respectful silence on the other side of the road facing towards the house. We all shared that special moment together. I shall never forget what that moment felt like.
Something else to add is that if you walk past Freddie's house and turn right, you will be in Logan Mews. This is a very short blind alley with a couple of houses. The house immediately in front of you as you enter the alley is where Freddie's friends lived. It felt special to visit here too. It's very quiet in the alleyway and if you stand still and listen, you can hear the water feature in Freddie's garden which is just over the wall. It's truly beautiful and emotive.

I used to live in Earl's Court in the late 80s and became aware that Freddie Mercury lived nearby in this house. I walked past his house once or twice and the high garden wall was plastered with written notes. Some as short as 'Hi Freddie, I love you, thank you! Monica, Rome, Italy' to others which might be a page long piece of what Freddie meant to the writer. It used to be similar outside Robbie Williams fomer home in Notting Hill, and still can be on the gates of Kensington Palace [Princess Diana]. It was curious to see, a site of pilgrimage in an otherwise typically anonymous street.
The house is now a privately owned and it must be quite a burden on the owners maintaining their privacy; I'm sure most visitors will understand that. There is now very little to see, but perhaps for the ardent fan to know/feel that that was where he lived is enough.
A visitor with more than a passing interest in his life might wish to visit a nearby pub The Pembroke. This was a renamed from The Coleherne Arms in the 1990s [x-ref: Wikipedia]. That was a notorious 'leather bar' where he and others in the gay scene used to hang out. It had such a reputation that 30 years on I still haven't visited.

We were staying in Kensington so it was a short walk to the house Freddie Mercury was living in before he died. A few things struck me about the place. There's not much to see because of the high wall surrounding the home but the point of going is just to be there and reflect for a few minutes. Many years ago the wall to Garden Lodge was plastered in hundreds of notes and mementos. However, that's all gone now. I can't imagine living in that house with the daily pilgrimage to see it. That's the last thing that was interesting about the place. They have had to coat the walls to make it nearly impossible for anything to be adhered to it. The wooden door to the garden has been sealed off with a clear sheet of plastic so you can't slip notes under the door. Although I did see a few, including one from someone in Japan. The tops of the wall have razor sharp detergents to stop people from getting over it. And then there are the cameras 24/7. The person who owns the house now must love Freddie to put up with all that nonsense.

If you walk from the very busy Earls Court Road and turn on Logan Place, seems incredible how this place appears to be quiet and peaceful. There is not so much to see near by, but if you are a real Freddie fan, you cannot miss and be touched by the places of his life, like Logan Mews and, of course, his home where he died on 24th November 1991. Even if is not possible to visit inside, standing out the fence and watching his room gives you an unrepeatable emotion as if somehow he was still there.

If Mary did love freddie once upon a time ..she would put a statue of freddie ..He is well loved by his fans ..A kind man like freddie has nothing for fans to see..
It's really sad ..
I'm sure Mary could do a exhibition for Freddie. .Would be nice ..
Elvis & prince had one ..so why couldn't freddie...
All we have is just a plain wall to see out side of Freddie''s house..
Not nice .
I'm sure Mary could agree an exhibition of Freddie.
They've made a film on freddie watch Mary had half of money from.
So why could they do more on freddie.
Instead of thinking about making money from freddie.
Freddie was a lovely kind well loved person ..His life was cut short...
Show must go on freddie, so we did some exhibition of freddie.
I'm sure this could be done ..

Quanto costa entrare nella casa di Mercury?
Written 3 February 2018

Written 19 May 2017
