Whispers of advertising past are the focus of these walking tours through Stoke Newington (North London) and Bankside (South London), taking in some of London's best ghostsigns (painted signs, fading on walls). These are used to explore local, craft and advertising history through their unique stories and survival against the odds.

Described as 'fascinating' by Londonist, the tour will inspire you to start spotting ghostsigns everywhere you go with an appreciation of their history and place in contemporary urban streetscapes.

The tour is led by ghostsigns expert and local resident, Sam Roberts, curator of the History of Advertising Trust Ghostsigns Archive and author of numerous articles and book contributions on the topic.

We did a mini version of the Bankside Ghostsigns tour, which was very informative and entertaining... Sam is passionate and well-researched about his subject... I've lived in the local area for over 10 years, but still learnt lots I didn't know. Highly recommended - thanks Sam!

Sam's knowledge on the subject of the ghost signs of Stoke Newington is completely unmatched, but the best thing about this tour is his passion for the subject. He makes you feel like the tour you're on is the first one he's done, drawing you all the way into the history of each sign and making you feel as excited... More

This is a fascinating walk through one of the oldest parts of London looking at the hand painted advertising of the past. These ever fading ghost signs can be hard to spot so a walk with Sam is the best way to see and learn all about them. Sam's passion for ghost signs is infectious and after a few hours... More

Sam was a great guide and incredibly knowledgeable and provided a lot of very interesting background information that had clearly taken a long time to research. I had a great time and learnt a lot.

This was a 2.5 hour walking tour of Stoke Newington in north London, looking at 'ghostsigns' - examples of faded Victorian and early 20th century advertising painted directly onto brickwork. There were about 10 of us in the group, which was an ideal size considering that we were walking along a high street on a busy Saturday morning. The tour... More
