Since 1663 the Theatre Royal Drury Lane has provided entertainment for the masses and has been visited by every monarch since the Restoration. The theatre has not one, but two, royal boxes and it was here that the public first heard both the National Anthem and Rule Britannia. Previous buildings were managed by the great actor David Garrick and the famous playwright Richard Brinsley Sheridan and he current, fourth, building was opened in 1812.The theatre was renowned for its spectacular Victorian melodramas and pantomimes but since the 1920s its history has mirrored the development of the modern musical. From the original London productions of American musicals Rose Marie, The Desert Song and Show Boat, through Ivor Novello’s romantic operettas and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s groundbreaking post-war shows to The Producers and The Lord of the Rings. My Fair Lady held the record as the theatres longest run for many years but Cameron Mackintosh’s record breaking production of Miss Saigon, at ten years, is the current record holder.

Perfect sized theatre. I love the lighting. Acoustics are good. All this adds up to an amazing evening. Sadly many modern venues can't come anywhere near this place. In the heart of Theatreland around the corner from the beautiful Waldorf Astoria. 5 minute taxi from Waterloo.

Went to the Theatre Royal to watch David Essex. Lovely venue but could do with a bit more seating in the bar area really! Good view from where we were seating.

We have been fans of Katie for sometime now and have been meaning to see her in concert. We have seen her before in out home town of Nottingham but this time we thought that we would have a mini break in London. The theater itself is a Victorian building with a grand foyer. The inside is looking a bit... More

I went to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane for the Katie Melina's gig this 27th Nov 2016. It's a really beautiful place. It made this moment magical. I hope to come back there soon for another Katie's gig :)

Visited on a Saturday night and started with drinks at the bar. If you would like drinks at the interval like us then order and pay for them and they will be ready for you, you don't get long though !!. The theatre was beautiful and the play was out of this world, transporting you back in time. Acting was... More

Lovely old theatre. Saw Willy Wonka, an enjoyable musical with superb acting on its final London run. The theatre itself is gorgeous. Set design and technology obscured some of the finer architectural details. Overall, a nice evening of entertainment.

I attend Theatre Royal with a friend during a girls weekend earlier this month. We attended to watch Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. The theatre was just stunning! Absolutely beautiful, very clean and spacious. Standard prices for drinks and snacks when in London. A lovely bar area with great architecture and a balcony. The theatre itself was cost but plenty...
